"Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut" ( "Superman II, la versión de Richard Donner"- 2006) es una versión alternativa a la "Superman II" (1980) de Richard Lester. Este trabajo había sido iniciado originalmente por Richard Donner, el director de la primera Superman en 1978. El 75 % del metraje de esta secuela ya estaba terminada habiéndose filmado prácticamente en simultáneo con la primer película de 1978. Pero surgieron tensiones entre Richard Donner y los productores por lo que se tomó la decisión de detener la filmación de la secuela y entregar el proyecto a Richard Lester. De esta manera Donner fue despedido sin mayores explicaciones. Recién en el año 2006, y a petición de sus fans en Internet, tuvimos la oportunidad de ver la película que Richard Donner tenía en mente, con la ayuda del montador Michael Thau, fan confeso del trabajo de Donner. Esta versión alternativa se aproxima más al guion original de Mario Puzo, mostrando escenas nunca antes vistas, como las logradas con Marlon Brando (que lamentablemente no aparece en la versión original de 1980). La fotografía y el sonido fueron restaurados digitalmente. Y varios efectos especiales fueron recreados por Thau utilizando las técnicas de CGI existentes en el momento de la re-edición. Este trabajo fue estrenado en DVD y Blu-Ray el 28 de noviembre de 2006 coincidiendo al estreno en los mismos formatos de "Superman Returns". Tuvimos oportunidad de ver esta versión varias veces. No caben dudas de que la historia se ensambla muchísimo mejor con la primera película. Y las escenas con Brando son de un valor incalculable para un guion con mayor coherencia y funcionalidad. Algunas secuencias recuperadas son sencillamente hermosas y emotivas. Como puntos negativos, llama la atención que las secuencias de CGI se vean bastante rudimentarias (aún para la época). Lamentablemente no se lucen, y se ven incluso menos realistas que en la versión original de 1980. El final también es tema de discusión de muchos fans. Last night's bed time movie and this one has been on my watch list for the longest time now and finally managed to track it down. Was it worth the wait? Yes. Released in 1986 this is about a zoology student who is asked to become an assistant to a college professor at his isolated country home but things start going wrong once she arrives at meets Link. Right off the bat there's something not quite right with Link as he murders a cat in the local town and his behaviour only escalates. Slowly at first mind you but not only that there's something not quite right about whatever Dr Phillips is into. It's never really explained what he's doing but there's loads of hints at mights. You just need to listen for the clues. As for the rest of the movie the acting is a wee bit hammy here and there but it's manageable as the obvious show stealer is Link with his wee suit. I wasn't cool with watching him smoke cigars and couldn't find any info on if they were fake or not. It's paced really well and actually builds on the fact there's something seriously wrong with not just Link but with the two chimps that the doctor has. Around the mid way point though that's when shit truly hits the fan and Links behaviour goes from mischievous to dangerous. As the movie progresses there's a couple of moments I really wasn't cool with and not just Link smoking, granted one of those moments involved Link saving Jane from a feral dog it was still a bit much to see. But that's nothing compared to what happens during the movies last 25 minutes. It goes into absolutely insane territory here and it's not just Jane who's life is in danger. We also see the fates of a few other characters including the doctor himself but that was pretty much expected if you know these types of movies. The movies climax was definitely one of the most intense I've seen in a while and the climax gets darker the more you look at it. Terence Stamp and Elisabeth Shue are both pretty good in this one but Link is obviously the show stealer and you'll see why when you check this one out. There's a few moments you might find a bit tough so I do apologise. #horrormovies #terencestamp #elisabethshue #horrorcommunity #link

Last night, in the Cineplex Robeon, I continued with choosing a movie (I've yet to see) from the "1,001 Movies You Must See Before You Die" list. There's no rhyme or reason to how I select the film. Last night it was director Stephen Elliott's 'The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert'. Two drag queens and a transgender woman travel across the Australian outback from Sydney to Alice Springs in a bus named Priscilla for a booking at a casino/hotel in Alice Springs. Along the way they meet interesting, mostly homophobic, people and some very open-minded people as well. This movie proved a lot of long time beliefs in the film industry were baseless. Up until this movie became a hit studios thought there was no market for anything openly LGBTQ and actors shunned roles portraying loud and proud gay men for fear of ruining their careers. The three lead actors here... Terence Stamp, Hugo Weaving, and Guy Pearce all have proven that false. Stamp already had a very long and diverse career before he made this movie... Hugo Weaving went on to iconic roles in 'The Matrix' and 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy. Guy Pearce has done everything from Nolan's 'Memento' to the neo noir hit 'L.A. Confidential' to Ironman 3... none of those are small movies by any means. This movie not only disproved long held beliefs, it inspired similar movies like 'To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar'. If it's only accomplishment was opening people's minds to broader subjects; it's a success. Don't watch it for that though... watch it for great performances, watch it for the amazing Australian scenery, watch it for the smart and funny script. HAPPY #superman Day !!! April 18, 1938 was the first appearance of Superman! Watching the #christopherreeve movies at a very young age forever changed me. Written both from the perspective of Frederick and then Miranda, it has a lot to say about class and money. Frederick is the titular 'collector', primarily of butterflies but it turns out he's also rather fond of pretty girls that he's been eyeballing for a while. A buttoned-up, socially awkward and very disturbed young man who despite his actions you may feel some pity for... at times. Miranda is a stereotypical posh young artist, who at first seems shallow, and in many ways she is, but as the story unfolds shows huge self awareness and potential to be a better person, which makes the situation all the more heartbreaking.
