La Cosa (1982) di John Carpenter Ed eccolo il "remake" de: La cosa da un altro mondo. Se ci pensate il tema di questo film, gruppo di persone rinchiuse in un luogo isolato che deve affrontare una minaccia esterna, è ricorrente nella filmografia di Carpenter, che a sua volta ha ispirato decine di cineasti, uno degli ultimi esempi che mi vengono in mente è VFW di Joe Begos, che vi consiglio di recuperare. Kurt Russell e compagnia ci fanno immergere in quasi due ore di paranoia assoluta, in una caccia all'alieno in cui nessuno è esente da sospetti. È curioso che come tanti altri film di valore, The Thing sia stato un flop commerciale al suo passaggio nelle sale, per poi essere rivalutato come capolavoro negli anni successivi. Non c'è molto che io possa dire che non sia già stato scritto su questo cult degli anni 80, ci tengo però a citare gli effetti speciali che ancora oggi fanno impressione. Forse è anche una questione generazionale, ma per me che sono cresciuto in quella che forse è stata l'epoca d'oro degli effetti pratici, anche la migliore delle cgi non puoi eguagliare la tangibilità dell'alieno di questo film. • Update #022 • Aus England sind wieder ein paar tolle Releases bei mir eingetroffen, die ich euch hier zeigen möchte. Das größte Highlight ist dabei die 80s Kadokawa Years Box mit Filmen von Nobuhiko Obayashi. Nachdem ich Hausu gesehen hatte, wollte ich den Regisseur unbedingt noch weiter entdecken. Beauty of Beauties von 88 Films war mir zur Ankündigung unbekannt, jedoch hat mich alles an dem Release gereizt und daher habe ich hier einen Blindkauf gewagt. In das Booklet habe ich schon kurz reingeschaut. Auf den ersten Blick sieht es etwas ansprechender und informativer als die Booklets der Japanarchy Collection von 88 Films. Abschließend kamen noch zwei Eureka Releases bei mir an. Liebesgrüße aus Peking hatte ich bisher nur als DVD. Ausschlaggebend für den Kauf, neben dem Upgrade zur Blu-ray, war hier aber vor allem das Booklet, wo ich mich sehr freue dies zu lesen. Da Kinji Fukasaku immer geht kam auch noch The Fall of Ako Castle hinzu. Review Blankman 1994 DVD Rating: 4/5 Blankman is a silly take on the vigilante hero that’s funny in its own right without outstaying its welcome. This film was met with critical disdain on its initial release and I think it plays much better now. Filmmaker Mike Binder switches to comedy-parody from his previous films focused on character drama. Marlon Wayans at this point was attempting to find the right material for the leading character, but this would mark him down after the minor success of Mo’ Money. The film would prove to be a commercial disappointment and critics had no idea what to make of it. The superhero parody concept was anything new with Hero at Large being one of the few memorable ones, but none of them had been commercially successful. This film had the unfortunate task of opening one month after Jim Carrey’s The Mask grew into a huge box office and cultural sensation. I found this to be an underrated comedy that takes chances and the sequence with the mayor takes this in a more grounded direction. It’s enjoyable when you run with it and Wayans is certainly committed to his performance. This was a bold choice for everyone and sadly it never found a bigger audience.
