Praise God that church bells will ring again in Raqqa! Three church buildings in what was once the capital of the Caliphate of so-called Islamic State were handed back to the Christians on Tuesday, 16 April. The buildings in Raqqa were taken care of by other organisations since the liberation of Raqqa. In a video released by The North Press, the local Christian Armen Mardo says, while standing in one of the church buildings, it was a "remarkable day" for the Christians. He expressed the hope that Christians will return to “the beautiful city of Raqqa.” “Raqqa is beautiful by its varied culture, ethnicities and peoples,” he stated. He added that [church] “bells will ring again, so that people will pray again and practice churching [go to church].” Raqqa was captured by Islamic State in 2013 and in 2014 declared the Capital of Islamic State. After that, almost all Christians left the city. Today is going to be a good day because even though Jesus was God in the flesh, he went before his Father in prayer to ask for the cup of death to be taken from him, therefore, we can do the same when we are facing difficult and deadly circumstances. Jesus was willing to surrender to his Father’s will in going to the cross for the sins of the world even though he was himself sinless. God’s plan was to be fulfilled and Jesus died on the cross for us. Let me share about two events impacting the student ministry at the ANU. "In February, Levi, who runs the ANU ministry, was involved in a bicycle accident. While riding through an underpass, he hit a stick which sent him airborne, resulting in a severe injury to his spine. Following a month of rest, Levi underwent a successful surgery in late March. The road to recovery began with two weeks of rest, followed by a month of intensive rehabilitation. ... This is one of those "God, what are you doing?" moments.
