This is what only 7 1/2 hours of sleep in 5 days looks like… pure exhausted bliss 😋🤱🏼🥰💕 today our hospital stay comes to an end & we go home 🏠🥰 I have gotten hundreds of messages from people over the last few days & I haven’t gotten around to reading them all, but thank you for the congratulations, the prayers & just sharing some love on our family of 3 🧑🧑🧒 🙏🏼💕 Our hours have been spent gushing over this cutie, learning to breastfeed (which I’m loving!), focusing on rest & recovery, & Manning has officially met the grandparents 🎊 I am soaking in each & every moment of this precious time 🤍 We had a really tough labor. One we couldn’t have gotten through without the power of God. I will share another time but I want y’all to know Manning is here & healthy because of Gods hand. Babies need to be on their tummies in order to go through the fundamental movement patterns (for example, raising the head, creeping, and crawling), which stimulate both sides of the brain. So much so that In 2020, The World Health Organisation recommended that non-mobile babies should spend at least 30 minutes on their tummies, spread throughout the day when awake. If you're the parent of a new baby that might be easier said than done! Some babies love tummy time, whilst others aren't so keen and take a while to get used to it. Here are some activities you can try, to encourage your baby to enjoy tummy time more: 1. Place a safety mirror or favourite toy a few inches from your baby’s head and call their attention to it. Your baby will lift their head and reach out in different directions, which develops the muscles needed for rolling over. 2. Place your baby on a colourful quilt with squeaky toys attached. Remove your baby's socks so he can get good traction on the play mat. 3. One of the best strategies is to keep your baby company on the floor. Coo, sing or make funny sounds to encourage them to lift their head. 4. Lie on your back and place your baby face down on your chest. Call his or her name to encourage them to raise their head to get a better look at you. 5. Place a rolled-up towel under your baby’s chest. This supported position allows your baby to lift their head & look around and improves focus. 6. Put your baby on his tummy over a large ball and hold them firmly while you gently rock the ball back and forth. Traveling with a baby with Singapore Airlines ✈️ Since this was our first international flight with our 3 months baby, we were contemplating whether or not to fly business class. Becoming first time parents, convenience is the utmost importance for us. This is by far the best decision we’ve made! Not only were we were able to check-in with 90kg in total (which we over did 🙈) we were able to check-in without any hassle or waiting time. Having lounge access has also made it more convenient for me to breastfeed and relax without trying to find a quiet place for us. Baby boy also did so well on his first international flight 🥹 The staffs were super helpful to us and loved him. He slept most of the flight and did not have troubles at all. If you have a Velcro baby, like my baby, you could skip the bassinet option. He only slept in it for an hour and slept most of the time on my arms. Thankfully the seats were wide enough for me to sit comfortably. It’s been a little over 1 month with our little Aurelia and she’s grown so much since we first brought her home. Though it’s been over a month, I can’t say we quite have a handle on things yet, as they shift every day. Becoming parents to a newborn baby has been the biggest change + learning curve in our lives. Personally, I’ve been a bit hard on myself and set expectations for myself that are unreasonable. There’s so many thoughts that course through my brain on a daily basis as a first time parent. I’m constantly googling things and chatting with fellow parents (which keeps me sane and I’m so grateful for all of you). Taking it one day at a time knowing that someday, she won’t be a tiny newborn anymore and I will miss this phase. - It’s those little fleeting moments between naps, diaper changes, feeds, bottle washing and laundry that we’ve come to enjoy our little bundle. She’s a curious one who’s always looking at everything. She’s growing, developing and learning at her own pace and that’s all we can ask for ♥️ I melt every time she grips onto my finger, as does Cameron. If you’re the parent of a new baby that might be easier said than done! Some babies love tummy time, whilst others aren’t so keen and take a while to get used to it. We give you plenty of ideas for Tummy Time in our classes but here are a few reminders of some activities you can try at home this weekend. 1. Place a safety mirror or favourite toy a few inches from your baby’s head and call their attention to it. Your baby will lift their head and reach out in different directions, which develops the muscles needed for rolling over. 2. Place your baby on a colourful quilt with squeaky toys attached. Remove your baby’s socks so he can get good traction on the play mat. 3. One of the best strategies is to keep your baby company on the floor. Coo, sing or make funny sounds to encourage them to lift their head. 4. Lie on your back and place your baby face down on your chest. Call his or her name to encourage them to raise their head to get a better look at you. 5. Place a rolled-up towel under your baby’s chest. This supported position allows your baby to lift their head & look around and improves focus. 6. Put your baby on his tummy over a large ball and hold them firmly while you gently rock the ball back and forth. Why is colour so prominent in our Baby Sensory classes? A baby's sight develops rapidly in the first year of their life and so giving them plenty of visual stimulation is really important. Their ability to see colour is limited at first however, studies show that babies can see colours and different shades, providing there is enough contrast in hue and brightness.
