Unleash! ¡LIBÉRATE! | Workshop - Tai Chi - Hao Form; 1-1:50pm - register in our profile! | at El Sereno Community Garden BIO: Teresa Mei Chuc was born in Sài Gòn, Việt Nam and fled her Vietnamese homeland with her mother and brother shortly after the American war in Việt Nam, spending three and a half months in a freight boat stranded in the South China Sea before being rescued. Teresa was raised as a buddhist and Taoist. She first learned Tai Chi when she was in middle school from her uncle who was a Tai Chi master. Teresa practices the Hao form with 108 moves and believes in and honors the healing power of Tai Chi practice passed down for thousands of years from her ancestors. She loves to share the practice with others. WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: I will be introducing participants to Tai Chi, the philosophy of Taoism, breathing techniques for tai chi and basic moves, connecting the practice with the release of tension, flow of energy and liberation. Attendees could expect to walk away with basic introduction to Tai Chi philosophy, breathing and some of the basic moves and their martial arts or self-defense applications. Today is National Missing and Murdered Indigenous Warriors AWARENESS Day…we need more than that, we need ACTION‼️This day was even harder than expected. But like last year, I felt like today is a day that I will have a seat and witness my allies step up, as this is a fight that us Indigenous mothers, womxn, warriors, Two Spirits and survivors fight on a daily. I have fought on a legislative level with other Indigenous political forces, I have stood on the frontlines with other fierce protectors to shutdown man camps, I am a mother of survivor who was abducted last year, and I pray every time my beautiful Baby Bears walk out the door that they will return to me. I am in this fight until my last day and beyond. I too have been held hostage and tormented. Any way you look at it, weather its our own love ones who kill us, rape us or hold us hostage, it is a direct result of colonial violence, white supremely, genocide and the theft of our land. Because when take Indigenous lands rom Indigenous people, you also take away our traditional kinship roles. For example, the Indian Boarding School Era. Homophobia, transphobia, human trafficking, religions/spiritual abuse, eradication of Indigenous womxn leaders, healers and Two Spirits are learned behaviors that were beaten into our ancestors by the priests, jesuits, nuns and religious entities that had only intentions of “Kill the Indian, Save the Man.” However, I believe in honoring my pain and creating pejuta (medicine) with it. Because of my unshakable faith, I truly believe that I have leaned how to lean into the guidance of my spirituality to activate a means of healing. #healingjustice is a crucial aspect of social change. Healing justice acknowledges that individuals and communities affected by oppression, violence, and systemic injustices often experience trauma and emotional wounds that require healing. By including healing within social change work, we aim to address the underlying causes of harm and create conditions for individuals to recover and thrive. social change is not only about addressing external systems of oppression but also about nurturing the well-being and resilience of individuals and communities.
