My husband has been working from home since the beginning of the year. So, all in all, our daily rhythms of work & homeschool haven’t changed tremendously due to the Coronavirus. However, I know this isn’t the case for many others. This familiar yet new work space can be a blessing but challenging and hard to navigate all at the same time. Add the uncertainty and the what-ifs that we’re facing in this season and immediately the stress level is kicked up a notch. . I’m finding even though we’ve had some practice for a couple months now, Grace is still needed - and maybe even more so. Grace for each other. Grace for ourselves. When you just need a moment to recollect, take a deep breathe & try again. Or sometimes it’s a complete shift & trying something different you’ve never done before. Grace to fail & not get it right all the time. Grace when the feelings & emotions are way bigger than the work load. . Last night Corey and I saw @johnnyswim at @calvincollege. This couple is amazing. The way they perform and interact with one another is so fun, and the whole experience felt like we were just hanging out. Their music is beautiful, they’re incredibly talented, and what they believe and stand for speaks beyond their music. Love and compassion is their message, and the performance isn’t something I’ll soon forget. . On top of an amazing evening experiencing Johnny Swim, Calvin College invited attendees to have a conversation with the artists. Abner and Amanda sat on the edge of the stage and answered real questions posed by the audience about their music, influences, and the like. It was such a cool thing to sit in on and be apart of. . By the way, during their last song they climbed off the stage and over the first few rows of chairs and stopped right in front of us to perform. It was great! The past few days I’ve been thinking about the idea of home, not the physical aspect but the mental aspect. I think we throw around the idea of home way too often without thinking about what “home” actually means. I had a conversation this week and my friend said something to me that got me thinking , he said : “when I see you, this is your home.” He was right this was a place I could call home. But I wanted to figure out what that meant. As I try to create my own meaning for home I thought of this; home is where you find love, support, faith, kindness, and warmth. Watching the series finale of Fixer Upper tonight was so bittersweet! I remember watching some of the first episodes and falling in love with Joanna’s design aesthetic. Dreams do come true. I’ve been a fan of this duo since 2012. Their music has been with me through sunny summer drives with the windows down, and through hidden tears of heartbreak. I’ve tried to see them numerous times including once driving all the way from KC to Memphis for a festival I knew they were in, but I ended up missing the show because I had to come back for work. When I heard they were coming to dc I was so excited, but when I went to go buy a ticket they were too expensive plus I found out I was on call that day. Then yesterday my chief Resident decided to let me out early, stub hub had tickets for $23(to a sold out show), when I got to the show I was told my ticket from stub hub was bad(the person used it then sold it again), but someone had an extra ticket and just gave it to me for free! And then I wept like a baby reliving some of the best and worst moments of my life with the people who wrote the songs that got me through them. @johnnyswim #ilovemesomehome
