Homebody is most definitely essential reading for everyone, it so graciously explains what it means to be non-binary, while always leaving room for fluidity and change. Homebody is a graphic memoir and follows Theo's journey as they learn what it means to be themselves. The book explores conforming to the rules of society and the dysphoria this causes, questioning and the comfort in trying new ways of expressing your identity, to finding your people and understanding that being non-binary is a journey rather than a destination. Homebody will forever have a cherished space on my shelf, I truly believe everyone should read this incredible book. The newest addition to my setup is an Acer Nitro 34” curved gaming monitor which is a stunning step up from my previous 27”. This year I’m trying to put more books I enjoyed on the grid - I’m still very slow with non-work reading so the recommendations have dropped right off! This is @theoblue.jpg’s lovely #HomeBody, which published last week from @panmacmillan. It’s a graphic novel about their journey to understand their own gender - and a really beautiful and thoughtful meditation on gender itself and how we all relate to it. It’s very sweet and funny and touching, and gives such an honest look at the different ways Theo has presented themself over the years. There’s something very wonderful about the idea of gender as a journey, not as a finished product - you can change your mind as you move through the world, and your gender can grow along with you. I think that’s a beautiful and very freeing concept! Anyway, this is great, beautifully illustrated and written and perfect for anyone 13+ who’s interested in thinking more on this topic. (PS - Homebody is posed here next to my orchid, the only plant I’ve ever been able to keep alive for more than a few months. It has been going for a year now and it is THRIVING. I’m obsessed with it.)

This morning I started singing the chorus of this old hymn and I got curious to what the story behind it was. I knew it had to be something pretty deep for the writer of the lyrics. So I did a little research. Horatio Spafford seemed to have had it all together as an attorney and real estate investor, then tragedy struck and he lost a lot of his financial wealth in the Great Chicago fire. And shortly after he lost his 4 yr old son due to scarlet fever. To help cope with the losses he set his wife and 4 daughters on a retreat to England via ship. The ship was involved in a collision and sank. He tragically lost all of his daughters. His wife survived. He left via ship for England to join his wife. On this journey they had to pass the area of the ship wreck where more than 200 people lost their lives. As they were passing this area, Horatio felt God’s comfort and peace in his heart and wrote down these words When peace like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll— Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to know It is well, it is well with my soul. We are not guaranteed a perfect life my friends, there are going to be tough times along with the good ones. It is our faith in our merciful and loving God, that allows us to have peace and say, ‘It is well, it is well with my soul.’ #devotionaltime🙏

THIS BOOK!! I've seen the graphic novel doing the rounds and had it on my wishlist. But a GRAPHIC AUDIOBOOK!? I adore graphic audibooks! Theres soemthing about a 'full cast' with music and sound effects that really bring you into their world. Review I've read so many books about being non binary. I think I've even cried over all of them. This one hit a different type of affirmation for me. My name and nickname. The audiobook was beautifully produced. I could picture Theo walking in nature as they told their story, changing from one scene to another. Hearing school chatter in the background and even some snide remarks students made really put me in Theos awkward shoes. Such a beautiful affirmative book about self love as a non-binary person. Now to go out and buy the physical book to come back to on days I need a little comfort. 'We are all just trying to find a place to call our own. We are all deserving of comfort and safety. A huge to thank you @pridebooktours and @theoblue.jpg for a #gifted #paperback copy of #Homebody, this is one that I could not wait to read! Plus, just yesterday, we were gifted the audiobook through @NetgalleyUK by @PanMacmillan! Thank you!!! I found myself re-reading the story twice and then a third time with the hour-long audiobook alongside, which is an absolute blessing to just add to the experience of the story! The book is just graphically and visually stunning with beautiful illustrations and gorgeous calligraphy, plus the narration by Roly Botha is phenomenal! I found myself falling in love with every aspect of this book! I really enjoyed reading/listening about Theo’s life and their ability to be open about their experiences. I feel that Theo highlighted a lot of issues throughout this book, such as the demands from schools on uniform and ensuring that each pupil has the same formal wear, which really does affect children and young adults more than those making the rules realise, not every pupil feels comfortable wearing what the school heads deem as “uniform” Also, there are many times Theo hits the nail on the head with how society and the world desperately tries to label individuals and squeeze them into boxes, and unfortunately with these pressures several people feel like they need to confirm, and as such live an unhappy life doing so. As well as how society and people make assumptions on others just based on the outward appearance, such as hair, make up and clothing, but it also reminds the reader and encourages them that these different outward appearances can really have an impact on one's confidence and self-worth. This book just highlights the importance of self-love and feeling at home in one's body The quotes throughout are wonderful and memorable. The story is amazing and empowering, and there is a real sense of personal achievement, confidence, and pride radiating from this novel. I love the support and encouragement that Theo is offering throughout the book, reminding the readers that not everyone is on the same journey in life and that everyone's courses can and will alter with time. *Continued in comments

Held my (our) first Indy's Queer Bookclubs today! The idea came from a number of voices on Queering Indy's FB page wanting a safe space for a queer book club and to meet new friends who shared a love of reading. I created a discord to organize the book club and so far we have 30 members! A lot of people were not able to make the first meeting, but the conversations and participation that is already happening in this book club has me very excited!
