Last week's full moon, as the moon set over Phoenix, was a race to get a composition and shot. I didn't plan much ahead, and just so happened to wake up early, so I was happy enough getting out there quickly and finding this nice saguaro lined up with the moon just behind it just before it dipped behind the distant mountains. I spent a few days in the Tucson desert and was amazed by the abundance of color in the landscape. These were taken from one of my favorite hikes in the area, Seven Falls in Sabino Canyon Recreation Area. A moderate 5-mile out-and-back brings you to an oasis of (season-dependent) waterfalls and pools. April 1st wrapped up my two years as president of the incredible Southern Arizona Arts Guild. For a few weeks, I had to figure out how I used to spend my time, what to create, where to find inspiration. I used to walk Sabino Canyon several times a week, but then it didn't fit into my hectic schedule. During these walks I would plan many artworks. In order to regroup, I headed back to this special space, wandered, and took photographs, like this one from Bear Canyon, with rolling waves of saguaros, and Thimble Peak in the distance, 30" x 40 paper, maps, and acrylic.
