I have enjoyed many miles of smiles aboard my @ride_bmc equipment: • Lots of great racing, incredible events, and adventures on new trails as well as familiar roads. not to mention memorable moments with my family as The Nugg learned to ride. • With their support I was able to enjoy each of the major disciplines of cycling in a single season, road, gravel, and MTB! • What a whirlwind! • So you can imagine it was bittersweet last week, when I boxed them up to ship them back to the mother ship at BMC HQ. • You might have already figured out that I have an exciting new opportunity with @bianchi_north_america that I will get to share more about in the coming weeks leading into the @seaotterclassic . How it started & how it ended… • The @socalendurance 8hrs of Temecula lived up to its brutal reputation, but what a day it was! • With the @ltraceseries LT 100 on the horizon, I set a personal goal to solo the race and, if possible, compete against the two-person teams that are known for setting a blistering pace all race long. • There were plenty of ups and downs throughout the day as I aimed to complete 16-laps, which meant I had to average 30-min. laps all day on the 7-mile course. A tall order to say the least… • Despite some wind, a little bit of rain, and the need for some mechanical support from my friends at the @thebikeshoptemecula , I finished the race having covered 113-miles and nearly 11,000’ of climbing. • I won the solo category by two laps and completed more laps than the fastest two-person teams, which blows my mind. I didn’t think that was possible, but I was wrong! • Every 100-mile MTB ride I have done has been brutal and arguably one of the toughest days on a bike of my racing career. • This race was no different as it ended with me lying face-down on the ground in the TBS pit area as I waited for the podium ceremonies. • I am pleased to have been able to see so many of our @bigwheelcoaching competing out on course as well witness my lovey JoyJoy getting after it with her teammate @gilron76 who won their race! • I’ve got some work to do before Leadville in August, but this was a solid start despite finishing absolutely obliterated. • I owe a special thanks to Ofri Ron, my lovely JoyJoy, @kellyeboone , and Sean from TBS amongst others for all the exceptional support ALL-DAY so that I could “clock in” and get after it with a singular focus! • Thank you team, this performance is NOT possible without you!!! Back in my roadie days, I learned some very valuable lessons about pre-season racing and with each new season I find it incredibly important to test early season fitness “in the wild”, so to speak. • Nothing replaces the thrill and unpredictable nature of racing. Since then, I began honing my craft to compete in this discipline at the National Championships. • In a year of uncertainty around events, this goal gave me a great “B-HAG” or Big Hairy Audacious Goal to plan for and work towards. • When National Championships were announced in late August, it gave me focus and something to strive for, even if the season was already long in the tooth. • With the help of my Strength Coach @barbellbuiltbody and the support of my lovely JoyJoy (my wife & coach!)
