That was an amazing meal! Even though I'm getting a bit tired of eating raw liver, I have to finish what's left in the fridge. I think I'll give some of it to the dog, and I'll just have a small piece left for tomorrow. But the tiredness from the liver is completely offset by the joy of eating red caviar. I haven't had it in a long time and could barely stop myself from eating the whole jar at once. According to @zoeharcombe who wrote her PhD on this topic, none of the four Cochrane reports (Gold standard in academic research) on saturated fat and health outcomes has ever found anything for any dietary fat intervention (reduced or modified, total or saturated) for anything related to CHD events, strokes or non-fatal heart attacks. There have been no findings against total fat ever, and there have been no findings against saturated fat that have withstood scrutiny (as reported in the Cochrane publications themselves). https://www.zoeharcombe.com/2020/06/cochrane-saturated-fat-reviews/ The only evidence that links red meat to any negative health outcomes is epidemiological. This is correlation and not causation. Often the studies are based on poorly done questionnaires where meat is included in things like lasagna and pizza. It’s not the meat causing the problem, but the sugar and refined carbohydrates and seed oils that they eat with it. There is no research to my knowledge linking people who eat good quality unprocessed meat with any negative effects, if they’re not eating all the other rubbish alongside it. Some of the research out there is also funded by Seventh-day Adventist and other vegan groups. It’s very hard to get real information these days without bias. The moral of the story is, don’t believe everything you read. Make sure you look at who funded the study and if there are any conflicts of interest.

New level unlocked. It has taken me 4 months of consistent choices to bring my morning reading (fasted blood glucose) down to below 4. 3.7 would be considered alarming to some - but it is actually ideal (conversion being between 67mg/DL. I’m off to coach 3 classes this morning, energy is fine. Clarity is fine. I ate later than normal last night, so will eat closer to noon today. I predict my blood sugar - WITHOUT EATING ANYTHING - to rise to about 5.3-5.6 by the time I’m done coaching. My body will pull from its OWN STORES TO provide the energy I need - that’s why ADDITIONAL CARBS to power you every day is pure garbage. It is not a coincidence that if you eat a non-species appropriate diet that you will suffer consequences. You cannot be a vegan and get all the nutrients that you need, either for your body or your brain. This is why supplementation is crucial if you eat a diet without any animal foods. But even then, in my opinion, it is not ideal. There is such a huge increase in mental health issues, and I believe that the food we are eating, and the food we are avoiding, has something to do with this. Do you agree?

I once tried going full keto on 10 tablespoons of coconut oil and my bum felt like a slip n slide for food. Carbohydrates are not an essential macronutrient for living. I could wrap this post up there realistically because it’s a fact. I could also state housing, money, and power aren’t essential for life. You can survive without them but they definitely make life more enjoyable. Context matters. Assuming you aren’t just here to live and survive, carbs have a vital role the more you wish to do physically. Even more so when that physical is met with higher intensities. People often argue you don’t need carbs for high performance and that you just need to become “fat adapted”. Or worse, you should pull carbs out for extended periods of time leading up to competition and then dump them back in. The performance falls apart and then carbs get blamed when in fact you’d just down regulated the enzymes needed to access the carbs effectively. Imagine having a savings account with all the money you need but you can’t access it. That’s the struggle your body is facing. So instead of thinking carbs are good or bad, or essential or not for life. Think about the context. If you spend most of your time sitting at a desk and occasionally walking to the letterbox, you don’t have a high need for carbs. If you want to run, jump, lift and grow a big ass, carbs are definitely essential to YOUR life context. Apologies in advance for the cringe progress post! But I turned 40 today, and I feel proud of what I've accomplished over the last 6 years. In 2018 my first son was born. I was lazy, gluttonous, and getting fat. I didn't want my kids to see me like that. My wife was in better shape than me after giving birth and her intense fitness routine inspired me. I told myself I'm gonna get shredded. 6 years later, and I'm blown away by what I've accomplished. I ditched conventional nutrition advice, stopped drinking alcohol, and just started eating lots of red meat! I feel like I discovered the fountain of youth. I've added fruit into my diet as well, and I'm convinced that meat+fruit is the ideal human diet that keeps you young, healthy, and strong. I know that feeding a family can be difficult when everybody has their different requirements. As a general rule of thumb, I try and make one thing that I can add carbohydrates to for the others or that I can subtract the carbohydrates from for me. Last night I made burgers. I just didn’t have the bread. I really enjoyed my meat and veggies and didn’t feel I was missing out at all 😋
