“Why should we believe that there is a problem with our content when there was no reason given to us in YouTube’s notice on blocking our channel?” asks Shambhu Kumar Singh. Singh runs National Dastak, an independent Hindi news outlet which on April 3 received a notice from YouTube, saying the video streaming platform had received a direction from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) to block National Dastak’s channel. YouTube said that the notice itself was confidential so they were unable to share it with Dastak. “How can they send us such a notice?” asks Singh. National Dastak was launched in 2015 and focuses on the issues of the Bahujan community and other marginalised sections whose voices, they claim, are often sidelined by mainstream media. Although Dastak’s YouTube channel is still functioning and they are continuing their operations on the platform – including the publishing of content related to the elections – the YouTube notice has made them anxious about the future of their channel which has 9.41 million subscribers. Singh said that this move is simply to silence the voice of Dalits, Bahujans and Adivasis. “I feel that the Manuvaadi people in the government have targeted our channel because it represents marginalised communities,” he said. He also added that several channels are being targeted while the Model Code of Conduct is in place. YouTube has allegedly also sent a similar notice to another platform, Article 19 India. May-Fung An ancient festival of Baltistan is called "Me Fung" which is celebrated every year on the evening of December 5 in the form of a lamp. December 5 is the new day of the year according to the Tibetan calendar. Therefore, this day is celebrated all over the country, including Baltistan, in the name of "Lo Sar" festival, ie New Year. Lo Sar Balti is a combination of two words in the language. "Lo" means year and "sar" means new. The people of Baltistan associate this ritual with the murder of Maqpoon Raja Abdul Khan Mee Zos, the cannibal, and some interpret it as an expression of the joy of shortening the night and lengthening the day after December 7. According to tradition, this ritual is also celebrated in some Central Asian States. In ancient times this ritual was also in vogue in Gilgit which is called Talini in Shina language. In Chitral this ritual is called "Tea Mass" and it is said that in Kailash mythology this festival is associated with the traditional journey of the sun and they also consider it as a way to start the new year. In Baltistan, this ritual is also attributed to the Zoroastrian religion, but in the light of these surrounding traditions, it is known that this festival is purely seasonal in nature. In the evening in Baltistan, the people of each village make a bundle of dry wood straw and burn it which is called "Danda". Affected journalists of Malik Riaz’s TV channel move Islamabad court The lawsuit was filed for the ‘recovery of damages to the tune of Rs5100,9000 along with the interest at bank rate.’ ISLAMABAD: The affected journalists have moved to the Islamabad court seeking to recover their dues after losing their jobs due to shut down of the Urdu language Aap News television channel owned by business tycoon Malik Riaz. Four affected journalists of Malik Riaz-owned Lahore-based Aap News television channel moved to Islamabad’s sessions court to seek orders for the clearance of their pending salaries. Following the petition, the local court had issued a summon notice to hear the case on December 14 (today). The lawsuit was filed for the ‘recovery of damages to the tune of Rs5100,9000 along with the interest at bank rate.’ Earlier in April last year, Malik Riaz had decided to shut down the Aap News television channel due to some legal and technical reasons. At the time of immediate closure, the administration had promised to clear salaries of the media workers in phases. According to the email sent to the workers, they had been promised for being hired on a priority basis in a new channel by Malik Riaz. Aap News media group had been taken over by the business tycoon Malik Riaz in August 2019. Upper Kachura Lake is a beautiful lake in Skardu District at a distance of about half hour drive from the Skardu City.
