Last night and this morning I had the gravity of what my father went through truly sink in. I was able to appreciate how difficult and frustrating it was to have others with more money, influence and power lie about you and thwart your efforts. His situation was so much larger than mine, so much more devastating. I wasn’t paying attention so was blissfully unaware. But he had to watch it all unfold with nothing he could do. He did nothing wrong, other than trust the wrong people. He angered people who didn’t understand his approach and they slandered him instead. He frustrated those who didn’t understand his motives, so they sabotaged his efforts. He enraged those who couldn’t manipulate his ethics, so they threw all of their resources at devastating him. I had a moment of truly understanding my father’s existence on a very small scale and it was overwhelming. He was a good man, few will ever believe that anymore due to the concerted efforts to destroy his reputation and steal his legacy by all. I had a moment and I thought I would share it with you all. I know I have shared this photo and its story before, but today I feel like sharing it again. I specifically wish to share the off kilter scan of a family photo hastily touched up by a digital photography software. The raw, real, imperfect moment in this imperfect scan of this imperfect photo. It is a throwback to a time before digital cameras when we had to take what we could get and didn’t have the glory of hundreds of attempts at a single shot eventually made even more perfect by a quick edit with an autotune software. I share this photo not as a way to again lament the fear I felt while strapped to this confounded contraption, but rather to stop and reminisce. I share this photo to remember with you a simple time of a simple life when my name was merely a thing people called me by. A time before it was something that would come to be greater than the sum of its parts. I share this photo with you today to remind myself who my father was, a man who liked to ride a ridiculous bicycle with the two people he loved more than anything this earth has to offer. An important note about the recent settlement and news articles. The company operating as DeLorean Motor Company (can’t tag because they blocked me) never purchased my father’s IP from my family. They are attempting a Trademark registration takeover of my father’s brand to take the DeLorean name from the family and rightful heirs. ZACHARY AND KATHRYN DELOREAN ARE THE RIGHTFUL HEIRS TO THE DELOREAN NAME AND IP. My father had issues with Stephen Wynne’s attempts to impede on his brand while he was alive, he definitely would not approve now that he has passed. The lawsuit was clear, the judge stated that they did not have rights to the Universal contract and that the company, name and marks were never sold to them by my family. They are using the marks without our consent nor permission and have taken even the DMC marks a step further and are trying to take my entire name. GREAT SCOTT! HOW MANY GIGAWATTS DOES IT TAKE TO ACHIEVE TIME TRAVEL? AND HOW FAST DO YOU NEED TO BE GOING? Probably one of the most recognizable car designs thanks to the “Back To The Future“ movie franchise. The car itself (and John DeLorean) have been the subject of several documentaries and movies. DeLorean was the youngest division head in the history of GM. In 1965 at the age of 40 he was put in charge of Pontiac and was responsible for the GTO. He left GM in 1975 to start his own company. Due to production and financing delays the DMC12 didn’t reach the market until 1981. Production ceased in 1982, although the last remaining 1982 cars at the factory had new VIN numbers attached so they could be sold as 1983 models. Approximately 9,000 cars were produced. Known for their sleek design, stainless steel unpainted bodies, and their gullwing doors they achieved an almost cult status. Not particularly fast (powered by a V6 engine from Peugeot-Renault-Volvo with fuel injection AND turbocharged) acceleration times were in the 10 second range for 0-60 MPH. The DMC12 seem here has under 7,000 miles on the odometer. It is fitted with a five-speed transaxle, air conditioning, and a factory AM/FM radio. BTW, it took 1.21 gigawatts of power to the flux capacitor to achieve time travel. But since this model is not optioned with a flux capacitor you probably don’t need to worry about that.
