💜Heartfelt thanks to everyone who came to our International Women’s Day breakfast on March 8th to share a meal, connect, and have meaningful conversations around how we can accelerate progress by investing in women. Huge thanks to our guest speakers Luz Restrepo from @migrantwomeninbusiness and Megan Champion from @weareuntoldaus for sharing their stories and work and calling us to action. Let’s continue to support and uplift women, by buying from their business or service, elevating their stories, going to their exhibitions, connecting, respecting, and recognising the ways women contribute to our homes, communities, and economy. As we reimagine and reshape our economies to Count Her In, we also keep in mind that this means counting in all women and recognising that gender inequality impacts women differently. Here are a few photographs from the morning. Thanks to @pennyryanphotography for her wonderful work capturing the event. Click the link in our bio for an in-depth IWD wrap-up and plenty more photos. 🌻Put intersectionality and inclusion into action this International Women’s Day. This can look like: • Seeking out partnerships when planning your activities with local organisations and community groups that work alongside Aboriginal communities, LGBTIQ+ communities, Multicultural communities or people with disabilities. • Inviting representatives and experts from diverse community groups or organisations to speak at your event or take part in the activity you are planning. • Removing barriers for people with a disability by providing an Auslan interpreter at your event and ensuring your venue is accessible. • Inviting local Aboriginal Elders to open your event, Acknowledge Country, and/or speak to the issues you are addressing. • Remembering it is important to avoid tokenism and box-ticking. Removing barriers to diverse representation and inclusion takes ongoing commitment and respect. For more tips, ideas and information, including a list of resources to help support intersectionality and inclusion, head to the IWD Toolkit link in our bio. #IWD2024 #CountHerIn #IWD2024 #CountHerIn #GE #GenderEquity #WomensHealthLoddonMallee #LoddonMalleeWomen #Bendigo #CastlemaineMaldonSurrounds

In 2013 Luz established @sisterworks_inc, a charity supporting thousands of migrant women. In May 2020 Luz left SisterWorks, leaving it in a solid financial and leadership position. Luz went on to co-found @migrantwomeninbusiness (MWiB). Over 230 women from 53 nationalities have been involved with MWiB since it was established in 2020! We are so thrilled to have Luz join us! 🌏One of our newest portfolios at WHLM is Women in a Changing Society. 🌏The work we do under this banner recognises that there are increasing pressures on women in our changing society, particularly for those in rural and regional communities as we experience the cumulative impact of disasters such as drought, bushfires, flooding and the COVID-19 pandemic. 🌏Applying a gendered lens at each stage of disaster, from prevention and planning to response and recovery will allow for more effective emergency management. The result will be stronger and more inclusive communities in and after disasters. 🌏That’s why we funded delivery of a series of Gender and Disaster Australia (GADAus) workshops across the region to grow knowledge and skills to apply a gender lens in response and recovery planning. 🌏Gender and Disaster Australia is currently offering this training FREE of charge, online and in person: 9th + 10th November – ONLINE 9th November – Melbourne 28th November – Hepburn Springs 🌏Click the link in our bio for more info and to register. #WCS #GenderAndDisaster #DisasterPlanning #DisasterResponseAndRecovery #HealthEquity #GenderEquity #GenderEquality #WomensVoices #LoddonMalleeWomen #WomensHealth #LoddonMalleeWomensHealth

Please share this exciting opportunity for women in Central Goldfields to take part in shaping the future of disaster and relief planning so we can better meet community need during local disasters and emergency response. Regional communities face unique challenges caused by extreme weather events flooding. These conditions negatively affect our communities in terms of farming, economic security, transport, access to services and social connectedness, and have a unique impact on women in terms of mental health load and unpaid care responsibilities. Whilst climate change affects everyone, women’s voices are often unheard when it comes to community conversations regarding climate change preparedness and planning. Let's change that! 🔶Lessons in Disaster training is coming to Loddon Mallee! Do you work with communities affected by disasters? Don’t miss out on our valuable Lessons in Disaster training. Gender and Disaster Australia has partnered with Women’s Health Loddon Mallee to bring our award-winning training to your community. Tickets are fully subsidised thanks to funding from the Federal Government and support from Women’s Health Loddon Mallee. With the heightened probability of more intense and frequent disasters due to climate change, coupled with social fragmentation and mounting pressure on emergency services, communities face growing challenges in recovery. Extended recovery periods will have an adverse effect on families, partners, and specific vulnerable groups. Research has demonstrated an upsurge in domestic and family violence following such disasters. Our Lessons in Disaster training will help you understand: • The distinct experiences of women, men, and LGBTIQA+ people during disasters. • How gender roles often expect men to protect and provide while women are expected to prioritise nurturing others at the expense of their own safety. • That LGBTIQA+ people’s needs are frequently overlooked in disaster situations. • That applying a gendered lens at every stage of disaster leads to stronger and more inclusive communities in recovery. This training package contains four x 90 minute sessions. Monday 24 July 2023 10.30am to 12.00pm – Session 1: Gender and Emergency – The Evidence 1.00pm to 2.30pm – Session 2: The Impact of Gendered Expectations – Individual, Community and Organisational Tuesday 25 July 2023 10.30am to 12.00pm – Session 3: The Disaster Made Me Do It – The Social Reconstruction of Sex, Gender and Sexuality 1.00pm to 2.30pm – Session 4: Working Towards Change – Workshop 🔶For more information and to book your FREE spot in this essential training head to 'Gender and Disaster Training' in our linktree via the link in our bio. #womenshealthloddonmallee #genderanddisaster #womenshealth #loddonmallee #loddonmalleewomen #floodrecovery2022 #floodrecovery #pandemic #gadaus

EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT! Today we have released a series of short documentaries in conversation with real women from across our region! These 5 short films highlight the importance of women’s mental health & wellbeing through the pandemic. Watch the films today on YouTube – link in the @womenshealthlm bio. Each tells a unique and compelling story of how 7 women have been impacted by the pandemic & the changes in their lives that have been prompted as a result. The women all live vastly different lives, each residing in various parts of the region, & each with their own unique ways of coping through the uncertainties & changes they have experienced since the onset of Covid. The theme of each film centres around one of the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing,’ a framework that sets out simple actions to improve personal wellbeing, backed by extensive international research. The principles of wellbeing include connect, give, keep learning, be active, & take notice. The films are part of a larger project and campaign WHLM have delivered alongside project partners @ndchvic and @bendigocommunityhealth to highlight the gendered impacts of the pandemic, and the need to build a gender-responsive road to recovery for women' health and wellbeing. We've all faced many varied and unique challenges over the past 18 months, with a lot of people needing support with their mental health and wellbeing. Stats are showing us that women, in particular, are experiencing an increase in anxiety, stress, and depression due to a number of various causes including: -Women are experiencing greater financial hardships, with more women becoming unemployed since March 2020 than their male counterparts. -Women are experiencing an increase in unpaid care of young, aging, chronically ill and disabled loved ones -Women are experiencing an increase in vulnerability toward domestic violence @womenshealthlm, @ndchvic and @bendigocommunityhealth recently teamed up and had conversations with women from across the region about how the pandemic has affected their lives. We also talked to women about the ways they have been able to build their resilience over this time and some of the ways they have found to cope with ongoing restrictions and intermittent lockdowns. The attached images show some direct quotes from our conversations, framed by the 5 Ways to Wellbeing.
