Our first night we went down to Main Street and ate at Fred's Cantina. It was Taco Tuesday, I had Rolled Tacos and then had to try a Carnitas Taco, so yummy!! We switched Margaritas, bcuz mine was so sour for my liking and Sierra's was too sweet for her liking, win win! When we left Utah yesterday morning it was 23 and snowy. By the time we hit Anaheim, CA it was 80 and sunny!! The Red Rocks in Arizona were beautiful! I couldn't resist taking pics while going through Las Vegas! Near Barstow we stopped for lunch at Peggy Sue's 50s Diner, so yummy!! Baby’s first roadtrip is in the books. Eva rocked it like an old road dog. 2,300 miles out and back to fulfill their dream of visiting Snake Discovery. I managed to throw in a welding class after a visit to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, a stop at O&H plus the Jack-O-Lantern Extravaganza. Dia de Los Muertos celebrations were amazing fun for Freya and myself. She got a lot of compliments on her handmade traditional clothing also, and was delighted when several people called her “bonita nina” (pretty girl) and one “pequena senorita” (little miss). Tonight Freya and I got to be a part of a sea turtle release. There’s an amazing organization here in Lo De Marcos that rescues sea turtle eggs at night after the mama sea turtle lays them in the sand. This keeps them safe from predators and theft (there is a terrible myth that sea turtle eggs are a natural “viagra”)… Once the loving volunteers dig them up they immediately rebury them in a secure “sand nursery” protected spot on the beach. Then when they hatch two months later they invite people to help release them to raise awareness about these amazing animals. This was my little guy and Freya released two of them. It was incredibly magical and really moving to watch them scuttle off into the sea. My sweet girl and I are finally arriving today. Really deeply grounding. I caught myself today so emotional, crying with gratitude because we actually MADE IT. You know? After all the many, many months of consideration and planning and packing and the weeks of driving and all all all of it. We’re here. I did it. Another solo mama journey to another country and it worked and we’re here and we’re safe. Freya and I bonded deeply today over our shared emotional outpouring - gratitude and relief and joy. Some slight disbelief but all the thankfulness of a human drinking water after too long thirsting. We made it to safety and slow days and peacefulness. 𝐄𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬!!! There was a point in my life I struggled taking a rest day. I thought it was a day wasted and I would feel guilty about not showing up for myself. I had such a skewed lookout around being "fit" vs. being healthy! Rest days are so important though, as they allow your muscles time to recover, adapt & grow stronger. They help prevent plateaus & ensure you aren't overtraining/ risking injury. Rest is essential for muscle growth! My rest days are normally used for every day activities, long walks, outdoor play or some light yoga or stretching. And of course hiking while I'm camping. Myself, Mía Rose, the doggies and my sprained ankle went on a little outing today. . . I went over on my ankle twice this week and now it's lovely and swollen BUT I couldn't not take advantage of having both sunshine and no boys! To say my ankle is now in agony would be an understatement! . . We took Mimi's giggle 2in1 pram on our walk and one of the things that got me through it was being able to lean on the adjustable handle bars. Our walk was along a small country round and while pulled over to let a car pass the driver commented "well, there's no missing you..." and I suppose with the vibrant colours that are in the kaleidoscope design there is no missing me. (which us good when you've to manoeuvre two dogs and a pram onto the grass verge before the oncoming car gets near) not a bad unintentional safety feature 😅. But regardless of what she's doing, it's getting her into the habit of daily exercise and she's learning through my actions. 𝐈𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐛𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐦.🤷🏼♀️ We did a spontaneous trip to the mountains this weekend. It was a little unnerving because we haven't really been spontaneous much since starting our family, but after the year we had it just seemed right. Saturday was absolute perfection. Besides the "are we there yet?" 5 billion times, there was minimal fussing, fighting and tears. We hiked the entire Maligne Canyon which isn't the easiest for a kiddo and enjoyed town, dinner and the hotel thoroughly. Now Sunday... That's another story. A grumpy girl with her bitchy dog made for a difficult day. Haha. So much so that we called it a wash and headed home earlier than intended. As I get ready to kick off a new week, a new year, a new challenge... I thought this weekend was relevant. It's easy to look at one's highlight reel and think it must be nice. Must be nice to stay on track with nutrition, take lovely photos and do trips with your family, to stay consistent with workouts. But Imma tell you right now, it can be FREAKING HARD. There will be good and bad days with any of these things (even if the pictures look amazing 🤷🏼♀️)... But you wouldn't just give up parenting on a rough day.... 𝐓𝐢𝐩 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲. 𝐁𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭. These beautiful moments come and go so fast... And sometimes it's hard to actually sit back and truly enjoy them by being present. I know I'm 100% guilty of this. My daughter's getting older and soon she won't want to hang with mom, no matter how cool I think I am (I mean... I'm pretty damn cool). Lol. Which means that enjoying these special bonding times are even more important and she's a continuous reminder that I need to slow myself down. This weekend we may have rushed our butts off.... 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐈 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐝𝐬. 𝐘𝐞𝐩, 𝐈 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐢𝐭. I was adventurous, spontaneous and loved to travel often. Things I wasn't quite ready to part with, but then, after 30... It clicked. 𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑰 𝒔𝒂𝒚 𝒐𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒚 𝒄𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒅𝒐 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒚, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒉 𝒊𝒕. Parenting is like that for me. I've never gone from feeling sooo stressed, anxious & angry (like a volcano ready to explode) to a big puddle of love & cuddles in 10 seconds flat before!! This girl always, ALWAYS keeps me on my toes and every day is an adventure. Some of those do include copious amount of booze... But I'd do it all again 100%. Kicking off September with the Hike it Baby 30 challenge! This is a free challenge to get outside everyday in September. My goal is to explore new places and trails in La Crosse. Since the weather is so nice today, we went for a walk at Chad Erickson Memorial Park. There was hardly anyone there, and the trail was all shaded and beautiful! Regina slept through whole time, but I enjoyed listening to the sounds of nature around me.
