Je n’ai rien contre les compétitions de parkour et je respecte les traceurs qui s’épanouissent dans cette vision de la discipline. J'attire tout de même l’attention des compétiteurs, car les compétitions de la FFGym ne sont pas anodines. Participer aux compétitions de la FFGym, c'est valider l’appropriation du parkour par la FIG, sans le consentement de la communauté. C’est accepter que notre histoire, nos valeurs et notre culture soient déformées, ou passées au second plan. C’est autoriser l’interdiction de pratiquer dehors. C’est accepter que le parkour soit dirigé par des non pratiquants. C'est cautionner que des clubs de gyms locaux s’emparent aussi du parkour sans vraiment connaître notre pratique (en Sarthe par exemple). Avec le risque, aussi, que les entraîneurs de gym s’improvisent entraîneur de parkour. Pour certains, la Dame du Lac est un personnage mythologique. Pour d'autres, il s'agit du spot mythique sur lequel le parkour est né. Mur d'escalade de 17 mètres de haut situé au bord du lac d'Évry-Courcouronnes, c'est ici (entre autre) que les Yamakasi ont développé leur discipline. Si je devais remonter le temps, rencontrer le moi d’il y a 13 ans (au moment où j’ai commencé le parkour), je lui dirais : “Patience. Tes efforts finiront par payer.” Je me souviens du gars fragile que j’étais au collège. J'avais -1 de confiance en moi et je me cherchais beaucoup, ce qui fait que j’étais pas mal bousculé par les autres. Le message que je donnerais à mon moi d’hier c’est : “Laisse parler tes détracteurs. Ne vie pas pour eux. Vie pour toi. C’est eux les plus faibles en réalité.” Me voilà, 13 ans après, Vice-président et coach de ma propre association de parkour. Je pose ici fièrement devant la “Dame du lac”, sur les traces des Yamakasi. En tant que membre du “Conseil citoyen”, je suis également devenu un acteur influent dans la politique de ma ville : Allonnes. Grâce au parkour, j’ai appris à m’ouvrir aux autres, à être plus à l’aise socialement, et à avoir plus confiance en moi. Le parkour m’a fait découvrir un état d’esprit et une philosophie qui, je dirais, m’a presque sauvé. Stanley's Thoughts no. 42 - Smooth success usually starts from a rough idea. I was around that sitting area when I felt the dumpster calling to me and all I saw was myself doing a dive roll over it. I was playing with this idea and kept slamming down cause there wasn't enough room to roll...till I had the thought to move the dumpster around a bit and do it again. Putting the dumpster on the blue wall gave it an extra height that made performing the dive a little sketchy. But going through the motions and finally committing to it, in front of onlookers (including my coursemates) was the best part for me. At least they get to see that Parkour isn't about diving head first at something (pun intended) it actually takes prior preparation. I guess #dumpsterdiving means something different for parkour people. 😂 My next post will be the clip of the actual dive roll. Super proud of these 2 today! They really showed out at the @se_pkc @georgia.parkour competition! Together part of a 3-way tie for first in skills, ultimately with Dorian walking away with 1st and Clark in 3rd. Dorian also finished the day with a 1st place finish in freestyle and 2nd place finish in speed. We couldn't be more proud of them representing #LevelUpParkourAcademy and themselves so well, no matter their results. They work hard each week to achieve their goals and it shows.
