The warm hub is really starting to take off... It's only the 2nd week but it's gradually getting busier, and the word is spreading π Even after the first week one lady said to me how much of a difference the hub had made to her life... Having somewhere to go, people to talk to, have some food, cake and warm drinks.. which was so lovely to hear π Often people get hung up on needing to make a difference to large numbers of people... But ultimately if you make a difference to just one or two people, that is amazing.. and a success π There may be many different reasons for people wanting to visit the warm hub, such as - π To spend time in a warm place where you don't have to worry about the cost of heating for a period of time π To spend time with others to help reduce any loneliness and isolation you may be experiencing π To meet new people and make friends π To help with mental health π To integrate into the community π To spend time in a different environment for a change of scenery π To enjoy different and varied conversations and play games and socialise with others π To enjoy some warm drinks, cake, soup and bread for lunch that you don't have to worry about the cost of Of course, there are probably many more reasons that have not been listed.. Old Leake Water Tower - Just a few miles north east of Boston in Lincolnshire is Old Leake. I have scoured the Internet and Wikipedia tells me the tower was built in 1966 to a Swedish design. The Swedes had developed this design in the 1950βs and it crossed the North Sea to our shores in the 1960βs when the βwineglassβ or βmushroomβ type tower became quite popular. Doing some homework, it appears the βinverted cone designβ is quite a complex one to get right. The angle of the cone is critical to keeping the supply network at a steady pressure as the water level in the tower changes. Construction is also not straightforward as with a traditional tower, the shuttering can reasonably easily be held with scaffolding. The shuttering to construct a cone is far more complicated and difficult to support. Slip form construction is often used for building such shapes (also cooling towers) and this also appears to have been a Swedish development where they used hydraulic jacks to move the form work. Clever old Swedes! Itβs not just Abba*, Volvo, Saab and Ikea.
