I’ve been feeling kinda heavy lately. I’m eating whole foods, sugar only once weekly, and no gluten. Overall, I’m pleased with my eating habits. The past few months have been stressful though. This can take a toll on the body. I tend to stress eat, over eating, not sleeping enough. But that’s okay. My hybrid training has been a challenge to manage with all the training for the marathon. But that’s okay. Life will flow. I notice things that need attention. More relaxation, more restorative moving, more quiet. Less stress. Less worry. Everything is temporary 🙏✨ Trusting that God provides and is always on time. In honor of May's Mental Health Month, I want to share my own story of when my mental health deteriorated in 2004 after I graduated from college 🎓 Late fall of 2004 I started suffering from panic attacks, depression, and anxiety. Looking back now, I realize that a culmination of stress, uncertainty, and life changes attributed to my poor mental health. I am grateful that my parents were able to find a psychiatrist and therapist to help me. To be completely honest, the road to recovery was brutal and I would never trade places with my 20-something-year-old self. But all of those experiences helped shape who I am today. Now 20 years later I am fortunate to be a licensed mental health professional where I can help children, adolescents, and their parents to address their own mental health. I want you to know that you DO NOT need a mental health diagnosis to work on improving your mental health. Here are 5 things you can do for your mental health this week: ❤️ Make a list of 5 things you’re grateful for today 😮‍💨 Take 5 deep breaths 🥗 Eat a nutritious meal 💦 Stay hydrated! 📕 Take a break from screens and read a book or go outside! The link between suppressed emotions and chronic illness lies in the body’s physiological response to chronic stress. When we experience a negative emotion that we are unfamiliar with, the body’s stress response is triggered 🚨, and releases stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. If we have not fully processed a emotion or repressed it, it can become stuck in our physical body this can cause stress responses (fight or flight) to become over activated (releasing cortisol and adrenaline over and over again) which leads to dysregulation and eventually chronic illnesses arise. My life is always a hurry!! Anyone else feel this way?? This is truly my ultimate goal - not to constantly be hurrying somewhere. Most of the time, I realize I do it to myself. But I would LOVE TO FEEL at peace and calm most of my life instead of always in a rush. Can this happen? 🤔 Those close to be know I frequently run late. 😠 This is not because I’m trying to be rude or don’t care, but I’m always trying to squeeze in one more thing to complete because that to-do list is never ending. And I seem to forget that time keeps going. 🤣 My husband says I have “poor time management”. 😂 Being in a hurry most days because I’m late or behind really does cause me great anxiety. Anxiety and stress really does impact your body and not something I enjoy. 🫁 Yaaah nog meer specialisaties in huis 🫁 Onze eigen hormooncoach Kirsten had de ambitie om vrouwen (en mannen) nóg beter te kunnen begeleiden op het gebied van ademhaling en stressmanagement. Dat is dan ook de reden dat zij de opleiding tot ademcoach (Breathwork Professional) heeft gevolgd en inmiddels heeft afgerond! Zijn wij super blij mee....want dat betekent dat wij weer een specialisatie extra kunnen aanbieden binnen ons leefstijlcentrum en een hele mooie! Hoewel de ademtherapie al aanwezig was, komen er ademsessies bij! Maar wat is nou precies het verschil? Bij de ademtherapie kijken we hoe functioneel jij ademt, wat er gebeurt in je lijf tijdens de adem en hoe je dit kunt trainen. Daarnaast leren we je hoe jij jezelf weer rustig kunt krijgen, is spannende of paniekerige situaties. Bij ademwerk of ademsessies gaan we binnen het leefstijlcentrum iets anders aan de slag! Sommige ademsessies kunnen zich richten op het verkennen en verwerken van emotionele blokkades, andere ademsessies zijn gericht om van hyperventilatie of te komen, anderen wellicht wat meer gericht op de flexibiliteit van de ribben en het diafragma. Door middel van ademwerk kunnen onderliggende emoties naar de oppervlakte komen en worden losgelaten, of angsten aangekeken worden. Een super mooie tool om stress los te kunnen laten en eventuele onderliggende trauma's te verwerken!
