Forgiveness is hard. 😅 But we’ve been called to forgive because Christ forgave us. Even when it hurts too much to forgive, choose to forgive anyways. It won’t be easy, and it’ll probably be a choice you have to make every day, but if you decide what hurt you isn’t going to keep you from loving the person who hurt you the way Christ loves them, then you’ll be able to work towards a spirit of reconciliation. 🙏 Start with prayer. Ask the Lord for comfort, and let Him know you don’t feel like forgiving the other person, but you know you need too. If you consistently meditate on how God has forgiven you, and you continually ask Him to heal and change your heart towards this person, what you’ll find is that the Holy Spirit will eventually give you the words to pray. And the more you pray for this person, the more at peace you’ll begin to feel about this situation. And when you’re ready, you might even feel the Holy Spirit prompt you to serve that person in some way. Jesus doesn't want your praise if you're holding onto unforgiveness. As followers of Christ, we are called to pursue reconciliation and forgiveness in our relationships. this one's a tough fact to accept 😅 but it's so true! If we want to experience true peace in every area of our lives, we have to cultivate a life of forgiveness. What does that mean? It means not allowing the offenses of other people to take root and grow in our hearts. 🌱 How do we do this? ➡️ first, ACKNOWLEDGE something done by someone offended you. (see David's example in Psalm 22) ➡️ second, MAKE the choice to forgive. (Matthew 18:21-22) ➡️ third, REMEMBER God's forgiveness. (Ephesians 4:32) ➡️ finally, BLESS the one who has hurt you. (Romans 12:17-21) Forgiveness isn't easy but it is essential to living a peaceful life. Because unforgiveness is contrary to God's love for you. You won't be able to lean into the inner peace that comes with salvation–which at it's core is built on reconciliation between you and our Heavenly Father through Jesus's sacrifice–if you're not living at peace with those around you. Likewise, if you're pursuing Jesus, His forgiveness of you will empower you to forgive others. And, living at peace with others doesn't mean the relationship is reconciled. There's a reason in Romans 12:18, the Apostle Paul includes the phrase "as far as it depends on you." But if you're doing everything you can to reconcile the relationship, you'll experience peace even if the other person never acknowledges or apologizes for how they offended you. "If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone...Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."
