I’ve been avoiding this post for probably 2 months now… She has officially graduated from both @thatsdancinschoolfordance and @eastpennsd so it’s truly real now😭 For the last 5 years @oliviamarler has been my Saturday morning preschool helper. It is no easy task to get a teenager to dance by 9:30, but with her supportive mom, @bmarler before she could drive, and then on her own… she NEVER missed a Saturday. Dance team, a school test, or a few random family obligations were the only times she missed. She even logged in on Zoom while we were home bound to make sure the kids still saw her. I’m not ready for her to go, but I know it’s time. She has grown into a remarkable young woman, that I am TRULY BLESSED to know and love. She is part of my family and will be always. I’ve already told her that I will be sending her out preschool songs on Saturday mornings while she is at school. Then they searched for objects whose initial letter sound matched as well. This picture says so much it makes my heart want to explode in the best way possible. This is long but so meaningful and important to me as a mom and educator. Here you see my 10yo son (Gavin) working with 2 students in class. For me...This picture defines the magic of Montessori. The importance of mixed ages and the beauty of watching a child observe and then execute the same task. Let me explain... Gavin is a natural born teacher and a Montessori child. He has been through the early childhood classroom and has observed me as a teacher for many years. On this particular day he asked if he could assist with the painting project. Of course my heart smiled at his interest to work with the children and help... and then the true magic happened. I observed my son being a supportive, kind and helpful guide. He let the children be themselves and explore without over imposing his will. He offered assistance when needed and respected their space. The kiddos adore him and ask for him often. But for me it's so much more. I have watched through the process a toddler flourish into a young man...an amazing role model and guide for others. These are life skills that he will have forever and they are not taught in a book. I am a Montessori Mom and Educator and I am so grateful for this method and the knowledge of loving, guiding, and accepting the whole child. Not just their academics.
