This weekend I made it back to Spadina Museum for the first time since 2019 ✨ I love this beautiful, free-to-wander space so much—later this summer, I’d love to go and write there with a little picnic. South Hill - just added to LocalesDesign.com ... and it's a beauty! South Hill, perched atop the Niagara Escarpment, lives up to its name. Located west of Avenue rd., south of St. Clair Ave., east of Spadina rd., and north of the CP railway tracks, it is one of the most choice areas in the city. In 1793 the area was divided into concessions, with one large central section going to Peter Russell, whose namesake road, Russell Hill road, runs up the center of the area to this day. In the late 1800's a series of large manors were constructed at the top of the hill, including businessman / senator John Macdonald, and the Eaton's. Parenthetically, Macdonald's wholesaling business was bringing in over $1 million / year in 1870!) The Spadina Museum, featured in this design, with its lush gardens, high end furniture and decor, offers a unique look into the grand life of the early 1900's through the lives of the Austin family. Spadina Museum + Kapinjalasana (Partridge Pose) Date : June 11, 2022 📷 : @gaganbahga SPADINA MUSEUM: Historic house and gardens If you are looking for a place that is historic and situated amidst beautiful gardens, then visit the Spadina Museum The house and almost everything inside it is more than 100 years old and it is remarkable how everything has been so beautifully preserved. The first house constructed on the site was built in 1818 but was destroyed by a fire in 1835. The land was then bought by Toronto entrepreneur James Austin in 1866 and went through some renovations and expansions. The Austin family remained at Spadina House until 1980, when the building and six acres of the original estate were generously donated to the city as a museum. It is just a 2 minute walk from Casa Loma, which is another beautiful historic site. You can easily take a subway/bus (@takethettc) from Downtown Toronto to get here. Don’t forget to stroll through the beautiful garden and enjoy the view of the city from the top of Baldwin Steps! Bonus tip learned from this house: Install furniture, including sofas, with wheels so you can turn your living room into a dance floor anytime you want! Spadina House Out of everything we did on our Toronto trip, visiting the Spadina House was my favourite. I love museums and historic homes and am very interested in learning about the lifestyles from the past. The Spadina house was so fascinating to tour and learn about. I loved that the furniture was authentic and belonged to the family who had owned the home. Each room was beautifully decorated and had a specific purpose.
