While in Toronto, our second-year students explored and visited numerous places. A few of these places are King’s University, Casa Loma, Spadina House, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Distillery District. While in these places, students got to witness the unique and diverse design elements that each building possesses, allowing them to take in new styles of architecture and the history behind it. Spadina Museum + Kapinjalasana (Partridge Pose) Date : June 11, 2022 📷 : @gaganbahga SPADINA MUSEUM: Historic house and gardens If you are looking for a place that is historic and situated amidst beautiful gardens, then visit the Spadina Museum The house and almost everything inside it is more than 100 years old and it is remarkable how everything has been so beautifully preserved. The first house constructed on the site was built in 1818 but was destroyed by a fire in 1835. The land was then bought by Toronto entrepreneur James Austin in 1866 and went through some renovations and expansions. The Austin family remained at Spadina House until 1980, when the building and six acres of the original estate were generously donated to the city as a museum. It is just a 2 minute walk from Casa Loma, which is another beautiful historic site. You can easily take a subway/bus (@takethettc) from Downtown Toronto to get here. Don’t forget to stroll through the beautiful garden and enjoy the view of the city from the top of Baldwin Steps! Bonus tip learned from this house: Install furniture, including sofas, with wheels so you can turn your living room into a dance floor anytime you want! Over the past week I travelled to Toronto with my Interior Design class.
