Not every boat owner cites the spirit of Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton as their inspiration for traveling – yet it is the case with Robert and Manon, owners of a Windelo 54. Perhaps it says something about the adventurous spirit that flares the imagination of many prospective Windelo owners. Robert explains: “One of the things that inspired me to set out on this adventure with Windelo was reading a book on Ernest Shackleton. That really awakened my imagination, and I certainly wanted to experience more sailing throughout our lives as a result of that.” If this spirit of adventure drove the couple towards Windelo, their quest for the next boat was also influenced by their extensive experience sailing in cruising catamarans. We proudly present🥁: Unsere Fjella. Seit ein paar Tagen hat unsere Maxi offiziell einen neuen Namen 🤩. Den Schriftzug haben wir letzte Woche an der Bordwand angebracht. Somit ist sie noch mehr zu „unserer“ Maxi geworden ⛵️💙 Bei der Namensfindung haben neben zwei Faktoren, die dem Aberglauben zuzuordnen sind 😀, auch eine persönliche Geschichte eine Rolle gespielt: - Die Yacht hieß vorher Felicia. Uns war es wichtig, dass der neue Name auch mit F anfängt. - Wir haben die Maxi aus Fjællebroen überführt. Der Ort auf Südfünen fängt auch mit F und j an. Ihr seht, so richtig losgelassen hat uns ein „F“ als Anfagsbuchstabe nicht 😀. Ein Boot umzubenennen soll ja Unglück bringen, hoffen wir mal, dass wir mit dem identischen Initial das Glück auf unsere Seite haben 🤤😀 - Für den Hauptgrund des Namens müssen wir jedoch einmal von Südfünen nach Südafrika schauen. Trotzdem stand unser Entschluss sofort fest. Wir sind nicht im Wasser geblieben, haben uns aus dem Wasser kranen lassen und sind dem Wassereinbruch auf den Grund gegangen. Werbung | Nur noch eine Woche bis zum Kranen! Gut, dass wir am letzten Wochenende den Endspurt des Refits mit einer erfolgreichen Polier-Session einläuten konnten. Wie viele andere Boots-Arbeiten gehörte auch das Polieren zu einem „ersten Mal“ von uns. Umso glücklicher waren wir, dass uns Wolfgang Peterson von Captain Reents von Anfang an beratend zur Seite stand und wir dank der Captain Reents-Politur ein top Ergebnis erzielen konnten!! Wolfgang hatte uns empfohlen, zunächst den Farbauffrischer mit der Poliermaschine (wir haben einen Exenterschleifer benutzt) aufzutragen, um dann unmittelbar im Anschluss mit einem nassen Tuch den Dreck von der Oberfläche zu wischen. Der Glanz kam sofort durch, sodass Rika mit einem Tuch die Nano-Versiegelung aufgetragen hat. Als letzten Arbeitsschritt haben wir die dünne Staubschicht, die sich nach Auftragen der Versiegelung gebildet hat, abgewischt. Und was sollen wir zum Ergebnis sagen?! Unsere Maxi strahlt wie eine Speckschwarte und ist glatt wie ein Babypopo!! Bei so einem Ergebnis macht die Bootsarbeit gleicht doppelt Spaß. We've had some chilly weather recently, felt more like April in the UK! Didn't stop us getting in the water though, which often has been warmer than the air 😆 We've been consuming about 34kWh of energy a week, just under 5kWh per day. This is mostly cooking, making water, and heating water. A warm shower after a snorkel or wing foil sesh makes such a difference, the boat has been a nice cosy place. We've balanced our consumption with our solar yeild.
