This market, not my style frankly speaking, it is built around a 50 years old Lokheed L-1011 Tristar which makes worthy the visit if you like aviation history. 💛LISBOA💛 Una ciudad cosmopolita y tradicional a la vez, a orillas del Tajo la verdad es que no se cómo no habiamos venido antes! hemos paseado junto al río, comido de lujo, subido y bajado sus cientos de cuestas, hemos visto ponerse el sol tomando un vino, nos hemos perdido por sus laberínticas callejuelas, viajado en metro, bus, tren, tranvia, ferry, elevador, hemos flipado con las vistas desde el otro lado del río, tomado cervezas dentro de monasterios, subido a muchos de sus miradores, uno de ellos éste, de los más conocidos y con un ambiente muy guay. The Mayan city in Tulum Two thousand years ago, the ancient Maya developed one of the most advanced civilizations in the Americas. They developed a written language of hieroglyphs and invented the mathematical concept of zero. They were skilled astronomers and constructed advanced calenders. Tulum was the last great city constructed and inhabited by the Mayan people. The first remains of human activity are from from 540 BC and at mid 16th century the city was abondend. It faces the Caribbean Sea on one side and used to have tall, thick walls to the other. Like in other Mayan ruins of the Yucatan Peninsula, many of the buildings fuse different architectural styles depending on the epoch in which they were built or expanded upon. Tulum was a site of worship to the Great Descending God - a god associated with the setting sun, rain, lightning, and the planet Venus. The god is often depicted upside down. Tulum was also a town for trade – over land and sea - It served as a prominent trading hub for goods like jade, turquoise and obsidian. It connected inland cities with maritime trade routes along the Caribbean coast. The strategic location of Tulum atop cliffs made it a vital defensive outpost. Its walls, watchtowers, and location made it a formidable fortress against potential invaders. On the roofs of the buildings, fires served as lighthouses. Shortly after the Spaniards began their occupation of Mexico after 1520, the ancient Mayas who once called Tulum their home abandoned it.
