A HUGE thank you to all the villagers who turned out to help and support with our litter pick this morning both with offerings of baked goods and braving the elements picking litter and debris to help keep the village clean and tidy. 😍 After a wintery start the weather was kinder and we managed to cover all village boundaries, central village and even the beck itself. In total we managed to gather 15 bulging blue bags of rubbish as well as metal, wood, plastic and everything in-between. 🧤🗑️ The village hall provided a warm respite at the end of the litter pick with a fantastic array of sweet treats, hot drinks and good crack! 🫖🍰 Westmorland District Council will come and pick all the rubbish up this coming week so if you see it lined up at the front of the village hall then don’t worry, it’s just waiting there for collection. What a fantastic day we have had at the #OurCommunityCan activity taster day at Whitbourne Village Hall today!☺ We had a brilliant turn out today with many residents joining us and finding an activity they enjoyed. Tomorrow (Saturday 23 March) we're celebrating village life in Mottistone Gardens. As part of Village Halls Week, the gates to Mottistone will be open for free between 11am and 3pm, for a community event that includes talks inside the manor, live music, dancing, tours of the garden, children's activities, and a chance to meet our herd of sheep. The night included dancing and music from the 1920's onwards and they even had a special guest of honour. Continuing to celebrate #VillageHallsWeek here’s a look at Earsdon’s village hall. Opened in 1888, the village hall used to be the old Primitive Methodist Chapel (built in 1825) after it was replaced by a newer Chapel. Located not far from the Red Lion Inn, the village hall remained in use for many years, with an 1966 OS map showing a ‘Hall’ in the location. It seems the building was knocked down and a roundabout was built where the hall once stood. The Earsdon and Wellfield community centre currently serves a community place for the village, located in the old school built in 1856. It's been another exciting week in Ugley! As part of Action for Communities in Rural England’s National Village Halls Week we held a coffee morning with a raffle and a bring and buy sale and we invited Jill Hunt and Penny Bull along with their husbands Keith and Will who were married in St Peter's Church Ugley and held their wedding receptions in Ugley Village Hall to come back to the village where they grew up to tell us about their respective weddings and the importance the village hall played in their special days. In 2022-23 the Suffolk Climate Action Community Match Fund helped to fund 6 village hall retrofit projects, including installing solar panels, battery systems and LED lighting systems. And good news - the £150,000 Suffolk Climate Action Community Match Fund reopened in January 2024 and 2 village halls’ retrofit projects have already been approved! This year the theme is #GoGreen with the week showcasing stories of how our village halls and community buildings can make a positive impact on the environment. To help celebrate the week we've been supporting Berkshire halls by providing an interesting and informative training event to the, mainly volunteers, that run these vital buildings. Our workshop on community consultation took place over in rural Frilsham yesterday and proved to be highly engaging and informative with learners rating it as good or excellent. One learner from #Chieveley stated " Many thanks for today's workshop. There was a really good atmosphere and great cross fertilisation of ideas and discussions how to make things happen." This could be hosting #repairclubs, #warmhubs, library of things, youth climate forums, community fridges, conservation volunteers, refill stations...
