Time for my review of #KillersOfTheFlowerMoon. First of all, the film is close to 3.5 hours, so go to the toilet beforehand and plan your liquid intake during the film lol. The film is led by #LeonardoDiCaprio as #ErnestBurkhart who is as dumb as you can get, which makes me think how he got away with so much for so long. He was good, as was #RobertDeNiro as #WilliamKingHale. He appears all gentlemanlike and soft-spoken but this guy was as cold blooded as they come, really liked this performance. But hang on, for me, the MVP of the entire film was #LilyGladstone as #MollieBurkhart, one of the wealthy daughters from the #OsageNation. I’ve never seen her in anything before this but my goodness, she’s a scene stealer for sure and I assume there will be an Oscar nomination for her in the not-too-distant future. The set design and costumes were great, it was like watching people from that period. One scene between Ernest & William had me cracking up, those who’ve seen it will likely know what I’m talking about. The film is a slog to get through at times and is a slow burn for me, but most of what’s on screen is necessary - most, not all. I checked my watch at one point and there were still 2 hours to go lol. Did the film have to be 3.5 hours? I’m gonna say no, I think an easy 15 - 30 minutes could have been cut and you’d get the same result. I think the last hour was the best for me though, when things got a bit more dramatic and personal, especially once the investigation began. One thing I did enjoy was the way the film wrapped up the story and lingering plot threads, it was quite creative to say the least. After all is said and done, this epic is still an enjoyable one to bang your Native American Indian drum to. President Theodore Roosevelt ordered this 1895 Winchester chambered in .405 Winchester, not for himself, but for Secret Service Agent, William J. Burns to take with him while disguised as a hunter, to investigate timber thefts and swindlers who had been selling off federal land and also investigate various anarchists in the region. After hearing of the introduction of the .405 cartridge, Roosevelt wrote to Winchester placing an order for the rifle. After it’s arrival and some discussions with Burns, Roosevelt and Burns traveled to Pine Knot, Virginia to do some target shooting and testing of the 1895. Roosevelt then gave the gun to Burns to use for his trip out to the Pacific Northwest. Needless to say, T.R. was very impressed with the new cartridge. For years, this rifle along with the correspondences between Roosevelt and Winchester, and Roosevelt and Burns stayed forgotten in an attic.
