#OpinionCinefila Hablemos de una película que desde que escuché de ella el año pasado, me interesaba mucho y por fin llegó a cines. Hablo de #CivilWar . SINOPSIS: En un futuro distópico, los EE. UU. están en guerra civil debido a un movimiento secesionista. Un equipo de periodistas acompaña a unos militares a Washington D.C. mientras las fuerzas californianas y texanas intentan conquistar la capital. . GUION: Escrita y dirigida por #AlexGarland (quien tiene en su haber un #peliculon como lo es #ExMachina), #GuerraCivil cuenta una historia que quizás muchas naciones quisieran que fuese real. Partimos con que está contada desde el punto de vista de 4 fotoreporteros que reatraran la crudeza que hay en una guerra. Y quizás este es uno de los puntos más decepcionantes, porque al ser contada la historia de esa manera, hay muchos detalles de la historia que quedan al debe y, por ende, queda muy a la interpretación del espectador. Sin embargo, no dejo de decir que me parece una historia que “entretiene” pero sobretodo busca reflexión en el público. Guion decente. PERSONAJES: #KirstenDunst es la que más sobresale en el cast de Civil War. Es una actuación con mucha determinación, seriedad y fortaleza. Contrasta perfectamente con la de #CaileeSpaeny que es todo lo contrario y da la frescura necesaria para la historia. Fuera de eso, podemos hablar de #JessePlemons que se come la pantalla en los pocos minutos que aparece… simplemente genial. . CONCLUSIÓN: Confieso que me decepcionó un poco la película. Buscaba más la visión del director del conflicto que el desarrollo del mismo. No quiere decir que sea una mala película, de hecho, me parece una excelente #RoadMovie, es decir, esas historias que se cuentan mediante un viaje o recorrido de los protagonistas. Mención especial al sonido, porque también es protagonista en la historia y diría que de una es una gran candidata en la temporada de premios. La historia está bien contada, pero depende mucho de la interpretación del espectador. Buenas actuaciones, gran secuencia de acción al final y un futuro en qué pensar. C'est un long-métrage réalisé par Alex Garland, un cinéaste à la filmographie bien plus fournie qu'on ne le pense. Avant de se lancer dans la réalisation, il a démarré en tant que scénariste pour le réputé Danny Boyle. 3 longs-métrages naîtront de leur collaboration : "The Beach" (2000), "28 Days Later" (2002) et "Sunshine" (2007). Depuis 2014, Alex Garland écrit et réalise ses propres films. Le cinéaste ne fait qu'enchaîner les propositions acclamées par la presse. Après "Ex Machina" (2014), @annihilationmovie (2017) et @menmovie en 2022, Alex Garland sort sa 4ème création "Civil War" chez A24, le studio reconnu pour ses oeuvres de grande qualité. Il s'agit d'ailleurs de la dernière réalisation d'Alex Garland. Ce dernier, épuisé par le tournage et ses contraintes, souhaite dorénavant se concentrer sur l'écriture. Civil War: B Alex Garland, the writer of Ex Machina and 28 Days Later, returns with his latest depiction of the near future. I went in blind and didn’t know what to expect going into Civil War, but it definitely wasn’t a road-trip movie centered around journalists. We get shown very little of the other players in the war. In this universe, the press are seemingly neutral participants in a divisive civil war. They are battle-hardened and get in the way pretty much any chance they can to get a photo. I found their massive involvement and acceptance among soldiers a little odd, but there seems to be a respect from Garland to those that observe history and record it. The cause of the war itself is left unknown, and as a viewer, you are thrown into the midst of chaos to put together what pieces you can. What we are shown is that war is hell and that sometimes you don’t know why people are trying to kill others. The taking of political sides was kept at a minimum in Civil War, which was interesting and unexpected. The film is not about shedding blame onto one political party or the other, but rather showing what can happen when an ever-escalating culture of division gets to its breaking point. The atmosphere of this movie is perfect; it’s unsettling, haunting, and believable. Garland’s direction was impressive, and the acting was on point, especially from Jesse Plemons. The cinematography and overall production value was just outstanding, with the one exception being the editing. There were some very strange decisions regarding the editing that I thought threw the movie off. Some rushed scenes, odd music choices, and peculiar sequencing made me raise my eyebrow a few times. In the end, Civil War is a solid, recommendable movie! Could it have been executed better? Absolutely. There are so many great ideas on display, but it didn’t all come together quite how I would’ve hoped. The plot left a bit to be desired, but it was a very “cool” movie to observe. The world that Garland created deserves a lot of credit.

Un film choc, ultra réaliste, très crédible et qui fait peur dans ce qu'il montre. Moins un film de guerre que ne laissait d'ailleurs présager la bande annonce mais plutôt un road movie, un voyage au cœur du chaos un peu à la manière d'un Apocalypse Now où ici on suit une équipe de journalistes qui décide d'aller interviewer le président des États-Unis avant qu'il ne soit trop tard. Leur périple va les plonger dans une Amérique divisée, violente où le danger peut se présenter partout, dans une station essence ou au détour d'une route, un parcours semé d'embûches dans un pays où la loi et l'ordre ne sont plus. Le danger étant d'ailleurs presque plus présent sur ces routes et bourgades que sur la ligne de front en compagnie de militaires. Ici d'ailleurs on ne connaît pas les causes réelles du conflit, à part à priori un président qui ne veut pas partir, ni pourquoi c'est le Texas et la Californie qui s'allient, deux États on ne peut plus différent mais ce n'est pas ce qui préoccupe Alex Garland le réalisateur qui préfère s'intéresser au journalisme de terrain, lieu de vérité, profession en danger face à la désinformation de plus en plus présente. Alex Garland réussit son pari et signe un film d'une maîtrise totale. Et les acteurs dans tout ça ? Ils sont tous parfaits de Kirsten Dunst qu'on est content de revoir dans un premier rôle à Cailee Spaeny, vue dans Priscilla et bientôt dans le nouvel Alien en passant par Wagner Moura et sans oublier Jesse Plemons qui en une seule scène nous montre tout l'étendue de son talent et rend la scène inoubliable, vraiment un très grand acteur !

CIVIL WAR. Features one of the best mob-chaos sequences ever on film. There is a certain heft in Civil War which lends to the verisimilitude to its combat-drenched-combat loving world. Utterly attractive, it caught it's lightning in a bottle with its set of characters portrayed with indelible beauty and zest. This is my favorite Alex Garland movie, my favorite @a24 movie and my favorite Kristen Dunst performance. Written and directed by Alex Garland this is a big budget adult war drama; which is a rare rare thing. Excellent. Synopsis : Une équipe de journalistes parcourt les États-Unis en proie à une guerre civile sans précédent. Ces derniers ne sont alors qu'armés de leur matériel. L'armée américaine, de son côté, est chargée de tirer à vue sur les reporters. Avis : Le cinéma d'Alex Garland c'est parfois particulier mais il faut lui reconnaître sa grande qualité. J'ai l'impression de dire ça tout le temps mais c'est réellement une expérience unique en salle. C'est une ambiance follement immersive visuelle et sonore, la personne assise derrière moi n'arrêtait pas de sursauter. C'est un road trip sous tension aux multiples rencontres pas toujours bonne. La réalisation est excellente avec un très bon développement de personnage, un rythme maintenu avec des phases de dialogue qui posent de bonnes bases pour qu'on s'attache au personnage en apprenant à les connaître et ainsi on comprend mieux certaines réactions. Niveau casting tout le monde est parfait je trouve ça dingue d'avoir un tel casting qui pour moi est une forme de multivers. On a Mary Jane, Pablo, un excellent second couteau, Priscilla Presley, Todd de breaking Bad, pour les trois personnes qui ont vu The Walking Dead world beyond à un moment on voit Hope personne n'aura cette ref mais surtout le président est joué par Ron Swanson. I went and saw the film "Civil War" this morning. I absolutely loved it! Civil War is a poignant thought-provoking thriller that is as relevant as ever. This film has some of the most choatic anxiety-inducing sequences I've seen in years. It's incredibly intense, visceral, and has some great sound design. The terrific script by director Alex Garland is powerful and really delves into the ambiguous and immoral nature of war. The horrors of it are completely displayed in shocking fashion and goes into the psychological impact of it. It also deals with some very real-life ripped from the headlines topics. It's a real eye opener that takes no sides besides the human side. The film is about a road trip across America with four military journalists on the way to D.C. The film is pensive and heartfelt with how it approaches these broken yet relateable characters who are trying to find that perfect shot. The film is filled with a ominous tension that you can't help but feel mirrors our society. The film stars Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Cailee Spaeny in phenomenal and absolutely heart-wrenching performances. The film has some fantastic supporting performances from Jesse Plemons, Nick Offerman, Sonoya Mizuno, Jefferson White, and Nelson Lee. The cinematography by Rob Hardy is excellent. The film is expertly edited by Jake Roberts, accompanied by a cool, effective score by Geoff Barrow & Ben Salisbury. The art direction, set decoration, costume design, and production design is superb. Civil War - Doom On a National Scale Leaving Alex Garland’s Civil War, I was hoping I’d be able to shake the extraneous existential dread and sense of doom that this film impressed upon me. As I write this review hours after viewing, I am still unable to move on. In my opinion, this is the single most impactful war film that I’ve seen in recent memory, comparing only to 2022’s All Quiet on the Western Front in magnitude and emotion. It’s complicated to describe accurately the emotions that I felt during this movie, but I will try my best to put words to its power. Alex Garland’s ability to weave together a film so strong in its architecture and core themes, yet extraordinary in scope. Throughout, I was astonished at just how apolitical in nature the plot and setting come off. It’s set in a near future, and is executed in a way that doesn’t give into absurdity - every bit of action, terror, emotion, suspense, and dread feels raw, heavy, and real. Our small cast of protagonists interact with this world in a way that is so desperately detached that I found myself almost scared of them, but mostly feeling so, so sorry for them. Every scene finds a way to rattle you in a new, horrific way, while you are forced to be a captive audience and powerless to help. I found myself wincing, clutching my heart, and almost in tears as unimaginable acts of violence and evil are carried out before me - a parallel to our aforementioned cast’s demeanor. The transformation of these characters is unspoken, but given explicitly through experience and heartbreak. This film comes to us in a time in history that a scenario like this sometimes feels less unlikely, and I believe this is where Civil War’s grasp tightens significantly. Through the lens of war journalism and the impossible objectiveness that our characters seek, this road trip drama exists to terrify and empathize, while providing a glimpse into an underbelly of the Information Age that seeks only to break one’s spirit. Paul Thomas Anderson marathon part 3: the Maater is another excellent PTA film, with a fantastic performance by Joaquin Phoenix and great supporting turn by Phillip Seymour Hoffman. It’s not an easy film to watch (as There Will Be Blood), since it’s quite dense and demands attention. nd it deliver a great cinematic experience.

Il thriller di denuncia sociale “Civil War” – nelle sale dal 18 aprile con 01 Distribution – scritto e diretto dal britannico Alex Garland (“Ex Machina”, suo è anche il copione di “28 giorni dopo”) ha subito destato attenzione, tra disagio, condivisione e dibattito. L’opera mette a tema il possibile sbandamento della società – il racconto è focalizzato sugli Stati Uniti, ma è applicabile a qualsiasi democrazia contemporanea –, preda di laceranti divisioni e violente contrapposizioni. Un mondo capovolto, senza più regole e tenuta sociale. Prospettiva del racconto lo sguardo di tre fotoreporter – gli ottimi Kirsten Dunst, Cailee Spaeny e Wagner Moura –, l’occhio della camera, che rappresenta la prospettiva giornalistica e lo sguardo spettatoriale. Sinopsis: En un futuro cercano, un EUA separado estalla en una guerra civil, un grupo de fotoperiodistas recorre el país para documentar lo sucedido. Garland es un director que siempre trae una nueva propuesta que vale la pena ver, está película gracias a su aterradora y cercana realidad nos sumerge en este movimiento, mientras vemos como el país colapsa, el terror de no saber en quien confiar, las detonaciones, confrontaciones armadas y la confusión en la que vemos a estos periodistas solo encargados a documentar sin cuestionar ni mostrar emociones en su viaje. Dunst hace un gran papel como la periodista apática experimentada mientras intenta guiar a la nueva en su grupo, viendo toda la violencia sin tomar una postura. La participación más destacada es Plemons que la atmósfera y su presencia hielan la sangre.
