We enjoyed lush scenery and warm weather on our way to Faith Lutheran in Marysville. Three years ago countless Lutheran churches gave us a place to stay for the night and this support was pivotal ❤️ There was a kids baseball game underway next door so after setting up camp we came over and cheered the kids on :). Today the sun came out so it was a perfect day to ride north. On our way through Lynnwood we saw an event tent set up with bollons on the side of the road. They were doing a fundraiser for an organization named " Sasha's Arts for Hearts" which donates art supplies for children who are receiving medical care. 9/4/2023 - Out on the Water. 🏞️🛶☀️🌊 A canoe, a kayak, and a paddle board went out on the Yakima River Canyon for ~2.5 hours… transporting 3 boys, 1 pup, 2 parents, & 2 grandparents — and we lived to tell the tale. Fun was had by all; ‘twas a good way to end the summer. Jackson & Harrison start 5th grade & 4th grade (respectively) on Wednesday at SCCS, the same private school they’ve been going to since the beginning. And our littlest young king starts Kinder at our local elementary school next Monday! Checking another State and another National Park off the list, we've almost made them all! Visiting Hot Springs National Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas. We strolled bathhouse row and learned about the history of the area. Geologists estimate that the water in the springs began as rainwater as much as 4,000 years ago, then, after being superheated, makes it's way back to the surface in only about 100 years, exiting at a temperature of 143 degrees! It's not easy taking a picture through a binocular lens, but what we saw was really spectacular. As best as I can tell from the maps, this herd of 100+ elk were around 5 miles off. They kept walking from one side of snow field to the other. Welcome to Mesa Verde National Park! Did you know that the park contains more than 600 dwellings and more that 5,000 individual archaeological sites? The Pueblonians survived using a combination of hunting, gathering, and subsistence farming of crops such as corn, beans, and squash (the "Three Sisters"). They built the mesa's first pueblos sometime after 650, and by the end of the 12th century, they began to construct the massive cliff dwellings for which the park is best known. The Black Canyon is striking to behold! At Chasm View, its rims are only 1,100 feet apart, whereas Grand Canyon’s rims are miles apart. At the bottom of the Canyon, in the area called The Narrows, the walls are only 38ft apart! That narrowness makes Black Canyon’s walls, which reach upwards of 2,700 feet high at Warner Point, look and feel even steeper.
