Para este domingo 28 de abril os proponemos una quedada de USK Marbella especial. Queremos celebrar un tour por el centro de Marbella a modo de sketchcrawl, o pequeña maratón de dibujo, donde recorreremos 4 zonas del centro con 45 minutos para dibujar en cada una de ella. Pretendemos con esta propuesta celebrar nuestro Jane’s Walk. Se trata de paseos que surgieron a partir de la muerte de la activista Jane Jacobs (*) para cuidar y divulgar su legado y sus ideas. El recorrido elegido es una pequeña muestra de diversas zonas del centro de Marbella que mantienen la esencia que defendía Jane Jacobs: zonas de encuentro, usos mixtos, diversidad, peatonalización. Podremos reflexionar sobre cómo estas áreas se han adaptado a las nuevas circunstancias o cómo se han visto afectadas por el desarrollo urbano. Nuestros trazos serán una muestra muy interesante de lo que son estos espacios actualmente, plasmando su aspecto urbano desde el punto de vista de los urban sketchers que somos. ¡¡Nos vemos el domingo!! Seated at the intersection of Duke and King Streets (right at the center of York’s @royalsquaredistrict), this Queen Anne-style corner row house was originally constructed in the early 1890’s for Samuel and Mary Weiser. For nearly thirty years, the Weisers owned and operated a seafood restaurant out of the first floor corner (56 S. Duke St.), and a wholesale oyster business in the storefront next door (55 S. Duke St.), while living in their attached residence. The Golden Swan Tavern/Weiser Building in Continental Square was originally constructed by Samuel’s grandfather, Martin Weiser. The Duke Street elevation is shown above, and highlights the iconic corner oriel window and tower (a Royal Square landmark), wrapped with an elaborate corbel-lined fascia ornamented with red festoons and dentils. The dormer window is similarly detailed, finished with neatly articulated wood trim and small “fish scale” shingles. Despite these unique features, the building is built fairly typically for its time, a sibling to York’s numerous other similarly built Victorian row homes. Today, some very talented friends and creatives occupy the spaces here - @joshjohnsoncreativestudio on the first floor corner, @mikointeriordesign (who commissioned the piece) and @kendyllhillegas share the studio on the second floor, and @omgyork has multiple storefronts on King Street. This studio engages with the concept of boxes while focusing on how to generate a meaningful understanding of space and tectonics that is based on the ideas of longspan and thick façade – commonly referred to as 'big box' in architecture. These will be in the training of novel structures, and response behaviors to participate in architecture of immersion and bewilderment. Located at the historic site of Seneca Village, now within Central Park, the Big Box represents a departure from traditional late capitalist practices. Serving as a canvas for the creation of layered environments, this design endeavor aims to propel architecture towards principles of justice and social equity. "Un arquitecto que tenga mayor agudeza para interpretar los procesos sociales, los problemas de la cultura y de la sociedad, va a ser un arquitecto que va a hacer mejor su propia tarea, es un arquitecto que tiene que tener tanta sofisticación en su lectura cultural que es capaz de retraducir todos esos problemas y darle una forma arquitectónica." El nuevo Pabellón del Marq nace del nivel de cornisa del basamento histórico proyectando una cubierta a modo de fuelle que da aire, se amplia y despliega sobre el parque. Por debajo va creando diferentes escalas espaciales para albergar las salas de exposiciones, el auditorio,cafetería, servicios y accesos. El zigzagueo de la cubierta se va naturalizando y adaptando al paisaje.
