Lovely trip out to the Petplan Equine Area Festivals, held at Addington Manor for the first time. I was pleased with our test. Jack got spooked in the warm up 10 mins before we were due to go in and started to get a little tense, but managed to contain himself and pull off a good test, with just a little tension that showed him his contact occasionally. We ended up in 5th place 🍾🍾. What are your riding goals? 🤔 Are they competition result based? Or are they centred around how your horse feels? Maybe both! I do enjoy competing... I feel it stretches me in ways I probably wouldn't consider if I did not compete. This can have it's downsides too though. But mostly, I love training just simply to get a better feeling. I get a thrill from my horses enjoying their work and feeling better in themselves. I've been super quiet on here so far this year, largely just because work seems to have taken over my life in a whole new way 😅🙈 It's a positive thing, honest! Also with the exception of Area Festivals, I've not been out competing. 9/10 I'm at my own horses in the dark still, or on my own, which makes for fairly pants content too. But, times are changing! Lighter nights are coming, I might actually get to a show next week 😱 so it's not all bad. I'm feeling so happy with how Pea is going right now, his AF "result" was amazing even if it was also a bit of a screw up 😅 The rest of the herd keep throwing me curve balls but I keep bouncing back with new ideas and solutions, I feel like I've just got to bide my time for now. So I am somewhat grateful to be able to throw myself into work so I don't stress too much! What's life without a bit of chaos? Area festival 💚💙 On the weekend me and Sam competed at the petplan area festival that was held at @moretonequestriancentre . He was so amazing and considering I have only had him 5 months he did amazingly. Unfortunately due to rider error I went wrong in the test which did cost us and ended up with a score of 64%. I was so proud to have even qualified and to get there. And with some lovely comments from the judges and things to work on. ✨️Petplan Area Festivals 2024✨️ Mouse really did start this year off well! After a winter of training towards our next goals, we headed up to @moretonequestriancentre for the area festivals. The plan was to use it as the first championship to get those 'sillies' out, but my gosh did she prove us wrong! I haven’t been able to ride all week mainly due to George being too ill with a nasty stomach bug and of course the great British weather ☔️. I had resigned myself to the fact I would ride today and then just go tommorrow and totally wing it with zero expectations however the lovely George has now very kindly shared his bug with me too so the decision has been made and the withdrawal email sent 😩 Totally gutted that we didn’t get to have a bash this winter but it’s just one of those things. Last week I headed off to Solihull Area Festivals for the Medium Bronze with Conkertree Peanut. Super proud of how he went, sadly I allowed myself to get flustered by the attitude of the steward and rode into the arena with my whip 🤦♀️ The judges kindly let me carry on and complete my test after depositing my whip, and we managed a fantastic 66.4% which would have left us 4th out of 29! 🤩 Whilst I'm sad this wont go on his record, Pea knows no different and I'm excited by the improvement in his way of going and my own riding. 🌟 BD Winter Area Festival Novice 2024 🌟 Our first ever Novice Area Festival and only our 7th ever BD Novice test. It’s been a testing few months leading up to it and it all came to a head the week of. After a last minute treatment by @tromanliz for a twisted/rotated pelvis, a saddle save by @sjp_saddlefitting , an hour long phonecall with @amyblountdressage and the calm confidence of one Rich @regal_dressage we managed to get down that centre line. We were most definitely not on top form, especially me after some unplanned dance moves in the warm up but I kept my cool and despite Rosie deciding that she was now scared of judges and photographers, we completed our first ever Novice Area Festival. We finished in 9th out of 27 combinations 🥰 with how she was feeling on the day, she gave it her all and I couldn’t have asked for anymore. Really pleased with Will today at the British Dressage Area festivals, he did a really good relaxed test staying really rideable and obedient throughout. I don’t think we look too out of place amongst all the post dressage horses, scored a very respectable 66.2% to finish 11th out of over 25 competitors in the novice silver league, missed out on a rosette and top ten finish by .1%! Our annual outting to the Petplan Winter area festivals at @solihullridingclub today 💃 Our first outting since October 😱 (must go out more) The Petplan rossette still eludes us but we arnt telling Roly he didn't get one because as far as he's concerned, he won 🥰🧡 This boy did me so proud today. After not a very good run up to this he still came out better than he's ever been. He was powerful, pushed front behind and we actually has plenty of lift infront which is new. (Thanks to my beautiful new saddle fitted by the amazing @mel_lewis_saddle_fitter ) 2 costly silly mistakes which were totally my fault due to not being quick enough to rein in his enthusiasm 🙈🤣 We got 62.65% which okay, not great and one judge marking us alot less than the other two judges, but still one of our better petplan scores and with mistakes so I'm not too disheartened but then how can I be disheartened with this happy little ginge 🥹 Huge thankyou to my cheer leaders and support team @ink_and_equines , Michelle Dickens and @tracydyke without whom I wouldn't have done today. Only a week late - an update on our Area Festival! And a rather underwhelming one at that 😂 To say our preparation was fleeting would be an understatement! Work and weather had put a stop to a lot of training, so we just had to go with what we had on the day. So we had a fairly average test resulting in a fairly average score. 1 month down 😱 How did you get on with completing your January goals? Did you make any? 🤔 I did ok with mine. Mostly I wanted to focus on preparing for #areafestivals, which I feel is going well. Not perfectly, life is too good at throwing spanners in the works for that 😂 but that's ok. I feel like focusing on myself as a rider is paying off, and I've managed to hit some of my home goals too which leaves my headspace much clearer for riding, and right now I feel this is most important 😊 My own Feb goals mostly centre around getting my last bit of prep done for AF (7th Feb), but then bringing the focus straight round to our summer comps - practicing our music and homing in on some WE training! So I don't end up dwelling in the aftermath of areas. Quality was great and I couldn’t be more pleased with her and I definitely think it was her best test to dated, unfortunately I had satnav errors and forgot a circle which did cost us a top 10 but hey ho! 💚𝗧𝗢𝗣 10 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗖𝗟𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗖𝗟𝗘𝗠𝗠𝗜𝗘💚 I am so proud of this little mare for putting her best hoof forward the last two days. We have had minimal prep the last 6 weeks but I was determined to give it a go and have some fun. 🤩 Yesterday’s Ele test had a couple of mistakes but over all very pleased considering she is so new to that level and only ever done 4 tests at that level prior to the Qualifiers. Today was a pleasure to ride the whole test and our halt was 👌 A top ten placing was incredible in such a HUGE class; and made a tough time a little easier 🥰 Thanks to Andrew for getting us to this point with much more to come 💪 Amazing photos from @lrg_photography who are spending a mammoth 4 days photographing nearly 400 competitors; and to @parwoodequestrian for a well run Festival. Top Tip! Remember to pause, get off the horse and look how far you have came and stop comparing yourself to others! This comes very timely after a Facebook memory popped up today, 5 years ago today we qualified for our very first Area Festival. At the time I was so focused on getting the scores to get there, to then focusing on what score I would need to be in top 10 that I actually forgot to have fun and appreciate the journey we had been on. Looking back I can’t believe how stupid I was, it was our first year at BD, our first big competition, we were having issues with canter strike offs and I somehow thought that I’d be able to qualify to go to Nationals, what an absolute idiot! 2019 was a hard year but it was only hard because I put so much pressure on myself and on Splash to be the next Charlotte (I mean who was I kidding 🤣) that I forgot what it’s all about. I forgot to enjoy the journey, I forgot to take a moment and remember that Splash was only young and it was our first season. Sunday we headed off to Solihull Riding Club for our first affiliated outing of the year. Rosie has had a bit of a quiet time over the last week given the weather so she was feeling quite opinionated that’s for sure! 🙈 The aim was to get a run through of the N23 test in preparation for the area festivals in just over two weeks. We have never been in the indoors at Solihull before so it was important that we got to run through the test in the new arena and we also rode without a caller. The wind was howling, and she was definitely slightly distracted by her surroundings. However, the run through of the first test went okay and I remembered the whole thing. 🙈 After checking the weather app we decided to stay and do the N37a and gained our first score for summer qualification. Last ride done and bath has been had, not the best build up to a show I must say, with a broken pony(sort of) then a broken lorry then a broken car means we haven’t been out anywhere since beginning of November and then with the frost came a frozen school so very little has been done this week! Some mid week BD today for Rupert to see if we could get our 2 final scores to finish our Novice Silver Area Festivals Qualification ❄️ However instead of getting the right score in Novice 22 we discovered Rupert can do practically clean flying changes instead of counter canter and wanted to do an Advanced Medium instead 🤦🏻♀️ An expected 58.96% with the mistakes. We’ve had no issues with counter canter at home but I think whilst we had no spooking at other horses in the warmup he’s internally got a bit tense over his back as it was quite busy for him. I managed to settle him between tests and he was much more relaxed having his first go at the regionals test N37A. The counter canter lines in this are tricker as you’ve got a give & retake across the diagonal before. 7’s all round for these movements and no flying changes in sight 👏🏼 A much more relaxed test overall for 65.74% and 2nd🥈 We went from being called a ‘Disobedient Horse’ to a ‘Lovely Polite Horse’. 🤣 One more outing to hopefully get our last score🤞🏼At the end of the day if we don’t get the score it doesn’t matter as he’s still only 6, green at this level and I wasn’t even aiming for this at the start of the year 🙈 #smartgrooming #spillers #spillershorsefeeds #warmblood #warmbloodsofinstagram #britishdressage #dressage #dressagerider #horsesofinstagram #equestrianofinstagram #areafestivals
