☀️Sundaze☀️ A perfect Sunday morning means lingering in bed with a good book, the sound of rain on the roof and a hot cup of coffee. If you’ll notice the mug, from a good friend. I miss saving lives. I have been a Respiratory Therapist for nearly 20 years. I’ve seen A-LOT over the years mainly working in the ER, some stories still haunt me to this day. I took a major step back after COVID to be more present at home and I’m so thankful for my amazing husband who definitely made that happen. I took another step back after being diagnosed with cancer in August. I am mentally preparing to take the next steps soon to get back to my roots of being at the bedside. I love meeting patients and helping others through their health issues. I won’t lie, I struggle with the next steps and getting back to our normal lives after my cancer diagnosis. I’m very co dependent on my husband and girls after being with them everyday since my diagnosis so even a work shift gives me some anxiety. I don’t feel as though I’ll ever be the same again BUT I want to say I’m better now than ever. I want to live in the light and not in fear. Wild hogs roamed the forests of Arkansas for centuries dating back to the travels of Spanish explorer, Hernando de Soto, in the late 1500s. Fast forward to 1909, when University of Arkansas at Fayetteville’s head football coach, Hugo Bezdek, called his players “a wild band of razorback hogs” after a big win over Louisiana State University (LSU). The U of A’s mascot had been the cardinal, but thanks to Bezdek’s comment, the university’s sports teams became known as the Razorbacks. Arkansas fans have been “Calling the Hogs” since the 1920s. It is said to have begun when a group of farmers attending a Razorback football game began issuing hog calls to encourage a lagging football team. Speaking of health, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 and praise Jesus caught it early. I had my double mastectomy and a total hysterectomy within 4 months of each other. It’s been a whirlwind of emotions for us all but we are coming out of this health crisis stronger in our faith and ready to take on the future. In the last pic you will see, we have some big plans to travel and make memories together because we unfortunately know how quick life can change. I had the most wonderful dining experience at The Blackberry Brasserie on my visit to NW Arkansas. The Crawfish Hushpuppies with gremolata, comeback sauce, pickled red onion were true southern cooking at its best! The Blackberry Pecan Salad was a meal in itself with so many textures and flavors. It was topped with Ozark Acres Farms free range fried chicken and included candied pecans, lemon ricotta cheese, sliced apple, arugula, spinach served with a blackberry vinaigrette. This is my second time dining at The Blackberry Brasserie on my recent visits to Rogers. The decor inside is warm and inviting with plenty of seating options. Both times I chose to dine at the bar. In addition to the delicious food, the service was impeccable. The staff always made me feel welcome as a solo traveler/diner. Their tagline of "Elevated Southern Food - Arkansas on a Plate" describes it perfectly. The restaurant is located across the street from the Embassy Suites Northwest Arkansas - Rogers Convention Center in the Pinnacle Hills area of Rogers. I was able to visit Trailside Coffee Company Saturday before my flight back to Virginia. The Lavender Fields -White Chocolate & Lavender Honey , a part of their April Specials, was the perfect way to start the morning. The cheesecake brownie was scrumptious ! Located inside Phat Tire Bike Shop in Dowtown Springdale, several friends had recommended I visit Trailside Coffee Company before leaving town . I loved the warm friendly gracious hospitality I received welcoming me to the coffee shop . I enjoyed getting to visit with some of the customers also. I was able to sit outside on the patio watching the sunrise and the cyclist, runners and walkers passing by the coffee shop on the Razorback Greenway. On a social media post yesterday, the coffee shop announced a pivot in their business model taking place in June. Now more than ever it is important to support local small businesses, like Trailside Coffee Company, who has been in business in 8 years.
