Just felt like this message needed to live here for all the mothers who teach their children everything they need to know - like it or not you are a homeschooler. Some of us just do it for a few more hours of the day. But it’s not much different. What I love about full-time homeschool: Flexible schedule. Freedom to travel. We get to decide what’s important for them to learn and what isn’t. More hours in the day spent learning and being together. More say in what they’re exposed to and at what age we expose them to it. Slower pace - no need for rushing around unless we want to be. And that’s just scratching the surface. There isn’t a right or wrong and it tends to change with each child and what their needs are but I’m so glad I’ve been able to really experience it. Going on 5 years now. Maybe it seems like we’re lowering the bar here, but if perfectionism has been our aim then the bar needs to be lowered. Too many moms are feeling crushed under the weight of mom guilt and a pervasive sense of failure. I’ve been speaking to moms for fifteen years, and I hear many of them say—maybe some of you would say—your greatest fear is that you are not a “good enough mom.” You worry you’re going to mess up your kids. I want to tell you what I’ve told so many others: You aren’t a perfect mom—no one is. And, of course you are going to mess up your kids! We all will, in varying degrees and in different ways. No matter how hard we try, each of our kids will have their own work to do having grown up in a home with imperfect, flawed parents. But WHAT IF God can take our mistakes, failures, and even our brokenness and use them for good? He can and he does. It’s his grace at work in us and through us as we humble ourselves and allow him to transform and heal us. My son’s due date was the day after Mother’s Day in 2019. I was a little bummed I’d have to wait a whole year to celebrate Mother’s Day as a mother, but also knew that it wasn’t an actual problem. I planned my maternity leave so I’d have at least 6 days at home before the due date to relax and organize the house. Everyone always says your first baby is late. On Friday, I decided not to come in my last day of work because it was the following Monday. Who wants to end on a Monday? I told the school secretaries so they could get me a substitute teacher for Monday. Turns out I made the right call, because my son was born that Monday, 7 days early. He was 6 days old on my first Mother’s Day. He didn’t make me wait a whole year, and he was born early enough so that I could be with him at home for Mother’s Day…but not so early that there was a need for concern. And in true Taurus fashion, my little Taurus has never stopped being so considerate of me since. He is a Taurus to the T. I love this little painting I made before he was born even more now. I have little paintings for every sign and also love taking custom orders for these. happy good friday friends! ya girl got a chance to go to an actual store that wasn't the thrift to try on some clothes + she took it 💁🏼♀️ are friday intros still a thing? 😆 I'm courtney-- wife to my high school sweetheart (we celebrated 17 years together in january!), mama to four kiddos (ages almost 2 🥺 to 10), + have been a stay at home mom for over a decade. we're in the middle of our sixth year homeschooling + live on a farm where we raise grass fed + finished beef, alpaca, have my dream horse, a couple good dogs, some barn cats (+ mow 👴🏼🐈⬛) + a bunch of chickens along the river in southern oregon 🌲 I love Jesus-- He single handedly saved me from myself + a life of emptiness despite the fullness around me many years ago + not a day goes by that I don't think about it! 💛 in 2017, we moved from ca seeking a life we always knew we wanted. the Lord graciously opened door after door for us + after what felt like many years of waiting + working toward it, we ended up here on the farm + have been here for over six years now. we own our own business here on the property + have started a couple other endeavors over the years. aka my husband works 7 days a week to keep things running (which means so do I 😉) + it has been a longgg journey of listening to the Lord + just doing the next thing in good faith, trusting that it will all come together. you reap what you sow + there's no shortcut! I can say that after many years of working towards this very life, we feel blessed everyday for what we've been given to steward 💛 I've always shared a mix on here despite what the "experts" say about "niching down" or whatever. I've kinda always gone against the grain anyway 🤭 I share our daily life, from scratch + real food cooking, farm + garden things, our homeschool days, household routines + managing a home, glimmers of beauty in the middle of everyday life, thrift finds + books + flowers + whatever else I'm doing + loving! you won't see me buying followers anytime soon 🤣 I love seeing the same things from friends + connecting in real ways. authenticity > anything else. I actually don’t love the word “𝙙𝙞𝙚𝙩” but realistically, it is sometimes part of the process when weight loss is the goal. The word just diet feels negative because of what the dieting industry has done to it, but dieting does 𝗡𝗢𝗧 have to be a negative thing. It’s actually 𝙢𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙩 to be positive-a process for getting leaner, healthier or whatever the case is. FRIDAY FAVOURITES Today is #internationalwomensday a day to celebrate the awesomeness of being a Woman. Today I would like to celebrate my favourite woman with a story of why she is my favourite. After experiencing a gut wrenching, heartbreaking loss, this woman found the strength to carry on and raise her only child as a single mother. Many sacrifices were made on her part to ensure her baby girl always had what she needed, physically, mentally, and emotionally. There was never a day that her daughter felt unloved. I don’t know how, and I never will understand that level of love and loss. This Woman is my beautiful Mother, and she has shown me what it means to be a strong independent Woman. I can only hope that a fraction of her lives within me, and I can show my daughters the same amount of strength, grace, and unconditional support.
