What's a magical trip made of? ✨ For the last few days, I've been in New Zealand for a truly special event. One of my favourite people I've met on my writing journey, Alyse, got married. Knowing only the bride and after a few quick chats with the groom, I flew over to attend the wedding There, I met the most beautiful people. From NZ bookstagrammers to Alyse and Aaron's family (I may or may not have pretended I was a long lost cousin and confused a few people 😂), I had the most special time And the wildest thing is, none of it would be possible without book stuff! Instagram is where Alyse and I met. Our friendship grew from talking about books to video calling to write together to now attending her wedding It really is a wonderful world sometimes, and this New Zealand trip was a reminder of that for me So, here's to being open to meeting new people, making new friends and grabbing all the opportunities life throws your way 🥂 and the biggest cheers of all goes to Alyse and Aaron - congratulations!!

🩷🩶 Social media is fake 🩶🩷 I LOVE this trend and I absolutely had to do this myself. As a Coach I’ve based my whole business model on being open with my experiences. I hear so often ‘your a coach so you have all the answers’, ‘this must all come so easily to you’ but there are so many stories behind the photos. Struggling doesn’t make me a bad coach. Its something I battle with every flare up I have. I’d actually argue that it makes me a better coach! Social media isn’t real life but it’s so needed and so helpful. Social media has brought the menstrual wellbeing world together to support each other and learn from each other. “Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s party!’ - Robin Williams 💐 Blue sky, sunny days are back, the bees are buzzing, the garden has sprung back into life – and I’m feeling the same way too! I If you’ve been following along, you’ll know I’ve decided to reacquaint myself with the basics of food photography, and part of this is also learning to embrace a more minimalist style. Gone are the days of feeling the need to fill every frame with props! I’m finding inspiration in the concept of “less is more”, pulling back the camera to capture the bigger picture and celebrate the beauty of simplicity in my styling. In this shot (swipe to see the setup), I went for a relaxed Sunday morning vibe with fresh coffee and pastries, with the light shining through the curtains and catching the edges of the flakey pastry and lemon cream ☕️ I loved creating this scene - and that I was able to create a whole vibe that wasn’t actually my home - using a panel effect backdrop from @blackvelvetstyling (that’s possibly upside down judging by the shadows 😂 ) and a “curtain” that is just a length of cheesecloth! This approach felt so fresh and freeing for me; cheesy as it sounds, it matches the beautiful lemons in the shot. Join us for a conversation with Choctaw multimedia artist Tricia Rainwater (@TriciaRainwaterArt), whose beautifully embodied work delves into the exploration of identity and grief. Using various mediums, particularly photography, she investigates the embodiment of displacement and how individuals can confront loss by revisiting ancestral wounds. In her self-portraits Tricia captures the journey of recovery. Over five years of photographing herself in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, her images evolve, reflecting the changes in her life. Through self-reflection, she explores her needs, areas requiring healing, and the path to self-care and recovery, inviting the audience to join her on this journey of witnessing and being seen. Most recently, funded by the SF Arts Commission, she dedicated time to creating works on the Choctaw Trail of Tears. This endeavor involved exploring significant cultural and historical sites such as the sacred mound 'Nanih Waiya,' Dancing Rabbit Creek, and Ardmore, Oklahoma, where many Choctaws were held captive. This process deepened her connection to her ancestral past and ignited a passion for a more profound exploration of identity, resilience, and the reclamation of narrative. Together we will question the role that photography can play in reclaiming and potentially healing the past and the ways in which photography can both facilitate and limit those transformative conversations across time. Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1 holds significance to the collective as its purchase price, $44.4 million, is where they got their name. $44.4 million is the most expensive work by a woman artist ever sold at auction. A decade later, this record remains unbroken. It was late fall afternoon .. Sun had dropped behind the tree line. We had mostly packed up and were done shooting until I got greedy for one more snap. This photo to be exact ! The light was too beautiful to not capitalize on. I remembered a spot under the deck that would give substantial negative so that the soft natural light would do all the shaping. Ally Christmas is a visual artist currently living and working out of Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Much of her work revolves around notions of selfhood, healing rituals, and lived experience, and her hybrid practice involves a number of forms including digital video, still photography, tintypes, palladium prints, bookmaking, gifs, cinemagraphs, and installation. Her work has been shown at a wide variety of venues, including bitforms gallery and Soho Photo Gallery in New York City; aCinema’s aDifferent Festival in Milwaukee; ATHICA in Athens, GA; Millepiani in Rome, Italy; Marcia Wood Gallery in Atlanta, GA; the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, CO; and the Alternative Film Festival in Toronto. In 2018, Christmas received her MFA in Photo/Video from the University of Georgia, after which she spent two years teaching video art and photography courses at Grinnell College as the Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in Video and New Media. She is currently teaching lens-based media as the coordinator of the BFA Photo Program at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia (USA). I look at this photo and it makes my mommy heart grow. The love I have for this little girl! BUT do not let a photo trick you. Madison was 12 months in this photo and her last plane trip was at 9 months. So this was a different ball game for us! We spent the flight trying to entertain her. Passing her between my husband and I. Using a busy board, lots of snacks (applesauce from @gogosqueez is our favorite and @cheerios). By the end of the flights we both were tired and at our limit. When I look back on this photo I think gosh I love her even when the times are so hard. A few short miles off a Georgia highway, nestled between ageless limbs rests a welcome sign. Blink-and-you’ll-miss-it, I have done so several times. The sign, hand painted on wood, serves to guide guests to one of my favorite locals, the Hostel in the Forest. I made this image when some friends and I celebrated my bachelor party there recently. A monumental milestone for me. The lake and its surroundings were the very definition of pitch black, only broken by headlamps and phone lights illuminating the few brave enough to swim in the early February waters.

Welcome to the second edition of #BehindThePhoto. As I mentioned in my previous post, my predominant inspiration for the photoshoot and album art for my song Never Surrender was the Greek Goddess Hestia, or the Roman equivalent Vesta. Hestia was the Goddess of the home and hearth, and so I found it fitting with my song Never Surrender, as home environment is definitely a theme of the song. This photo was inspired by the painting Hestia by Howard David Johnson. He's an American illustrator and uses a variety of mixed media, such as oil on canvas and digital art. He focuses on historical and mythological subjects, and for this work his inspiration was Goddess Hestia. Welcome to the first edition of #BehindThePhoto. The album art for my upcoming single Never Surrender was inspired by the painting entitled 'Portrait of a Woman As A Vestal Virgin' by Swiss-born artist Angelica Kauffmann. Painted in 1775, this work falls in the style of neo-classicism. It depicts a Vestal Virgin making a sacrifice for the Roman Goddess Minerva. In ancient Rome, Goddess Vesta (inspired by the Greek equivalent Hestia) was the Goddess of the home and hearth and family. The Vestal Virgins were priestesses in the Temple of Vesta. Given the theme of my song Never Surrender surrounds home and family, the photoshoot that I did was inspired by depictions or references of Vesta or Hestia. In this work however, it isn't Goddess Vesta that's depicted but one of the Vestal Virgins making a sacrifice to Goddess Minerva, who was the Roman equivalent of Greek Goddess Athena. Minerva was the Goddess of wisdom, war, justice, law, victory and the sponsor of the arts, trade and strategy. Minerva is present in this portrait behind the Vestal Virgin on a wall, with a shield and a helmet. Never Surrender drops on Friday, 9th February 2024, with the music video premiering at 6 PM on my channel!
