Art materials will be provided. Priya, India’s pioneering female superhero, returns alongside her magical flying tiger in a captivating series of animated shorts addressing critical issues from the Covid-19 pandemic to climate change. Named a “gender equality champion” by UN WOMEN and a survivor of gender-based violence, Priya employs her persuasive abilities to motivate and inspire positive change. Spanning various animation styles from traditional cartoons to puppets to augmented reality, these films offer unique perspectives on pressing global challenges. Through these narratives, viewers are not only entertained but also enlightened and inspired to take action towards a brighter, more sustainable future. Feeling the Power💪🏽 #WerewolfByNight Taking a look at this new Marvel Comic about a Native American Teen Superhero. Written by the wonderful @taboo & @b.earlwriter @illuminative Being of mixed heritage and growing up in Europe means that I never had a chance to connect with my actual cultural heritage. My father is from America and Because of History/Slavery/Genocide I barely have any knowledge about my African and Native American Ancestors and therefore I don’t think it is appropriate for me to claim any of those cultural identities or to speak for them. As a brown/black person I have experienced lots of racism growing up and I still do but I always find a way to empower myself and other black/brown/people of color. I take it upon myself to learn about different cultures, to listen to their voices and to value their stories. I try my best to amplify and stand for them. At very young ages they start to sort who they visually see as “good” and “bad” and, unsurprisingly, representations of darker skin are usually identified by children of all races as the “bad” ones. Watching a little Black girl holding up a Black doll as the “bad” doll and then hesitantly holding up that same doll as the one that looks like her is a heart breaking reminder of the way our society continues to reinforce the ideals of white supremacy. Positive and inclusive representation is incredibly important. It makes our children feel included, shows them where they belong, builds self-belief and self-esteem, and shapes what they see as possible for people who look like them. More, it shows ALL our children what they can expect from each other. Positive representation matters for all sides. To build an inclusive society we need to see inclusive representation normalized.
