Climbed up a waterfall at Bua Tong Waterfalls outside of Chiang Mai, Thailand. I was feeling a little under the weather, so I didn't explore and climb as much as Aaron did. The rocks are primarily limestone, which makes it less slippery. As we were near the top, the sweet lady in the white shirt slipped and fell on her face... hard. Aaron and my mother-in-law helped her to the top and helped control the bleeding from her nose and head as best as we could until the paramedics came. We donated our borrowed hotel towel to the cause. I tried to help her husband stay calm. Day 8 - Chiang Mai, Thailand Took a day trip via songthaew to the Bua Tong Sticky Waterfalls (220 BHT). Located just over an hour north of the old city, these waterfalls are such a unique and amazing experience! The Sticky Waterfalls gets their name from a mineral deposit that’s extremely grippy, they feel like a harden sponge. Crystal clear water from a natural spring works its way down leaving limestone deposits, which makes it possible to climb up. Such a cool experience to walk up the waterfalls! I would definitely recommend chasing these waterfalls. 💦 Also went for some vegan food and rode on the back of a motorcycle the first time! Okay, so I’m gonna let you in and a little secret that’s actually not so secret anymore 🙈 My absolute favourite day trip from Chiang Mai is the sticky waterfalls. I just love them and I took my friend Maria to see them last week and she loved them as well. One usually goes down waterfall, so how is it possible to climb up a waterfall? The rocks are covered in a very gripping mineral deposit, which makes it possible to climb the waterfall all the way from the bottom to the top. And no matter how many times I do it, I find it so incredibly cool. And fun. Getting to the sticky waterfalls is a little bit tricky if you don’t have a car or a scooter. Actually it’s not tricky at all, but it can be a little expensive. If you’re up for doing a group tour, you can find nine other people and rent a songtaew for 2200 baht for a round-trip, but we did not feel up for a group tour so what we did was hire a Grab one way. We assumed they wouldn’t want to go only one way to the waterfalls and then have to drive all the way back, and we were right. When we booked, the drivers reached out to us with a round-trip offer. We tried a few and they all gave us the same price for a 1400 baht round-trip and two hours at the waterfall, and we thought that was a fair price. The funnest way to get to the waterfall is by motorbike! I’ve done that a few times and I absolutely loved it, but I don’t have a motorcycle license and the police will probably stop you (which, of course, they’re in their good right to do!) and I don’t need that stress in my life anymore, so this time we just went by car. I’d say you’ll need approximately two hours at the waterfalls if you want enough time for pictures and for climbing the falls a time or two. Maybe three if you want to get some food as well.
