A few photos documenting the restoration of this incredible room. The music room from Norfolk House in Mayfair the London seat of the Duke of Norfolk until it was demolished in 1938. Cut to pieces and rebuilt in the Victoria and Albert Museum this beautiful set piece of 18th century interior design still impresses today. The first photograph was used by artisans to recreate missing musical instruments from the mirrors. The second shows the state of the room before restoration. The third shows new carving inserted next to old. Artist Spotlight: Wayne Hewell! A farmer and 5th generation potter in northeast Georgia, Wayne Hewell comes from a deeply-rooted family tradition. The red Georgia clay has been molded by Hewell hands since 1850, when Nathaniel Hewell started making pottery as a side-line to farming. Hewell’s Pottery is still the leading wholesale pottery in the US and it’s where Wayne honed his craft while working in the family business. Now focused solely on “turning & burning” on his own, Wayne uses wild local clay, traditional alkaline glazes, and fires in a wood-fired kiln. Furtive sideways glances, cigars smoked all the way down to the end, corn-cob stoppers from his own farm, and twisting, pointed ears are the defining characteristics of Wayne's work and lend a humor to his face jugs that is absolutely charming. He's also known for his swirlware - a process of combining two different clay bodies to achieve a mesmerizing swirling effect. Though it may look gracefully simple, it takes much technical knowledge to select clays disparate enough to highlight the swirling pattern and similar enough to still properly bind together.
