Today is Orange Shirt Day. The day that we recognize the impact residential schools had on indigenous children, indigenous culture, and the fabric of Canada. Often it is said that this moment was just a piece of our past and we should all just move on. But residential schools are not a "thing of the past." The impact and legacy can still be felt by Canada and Canadians whether they realize it or not. We are all impacted by the stories, memories, and history of the residential schools. Today is the day we wear orange to demonstrate our role in healing as a collective and moving forward in a new way. Today, take some time to learn more about what orange shirt day represents. There is a wonderful interview with Phyllis Webstad and Ainara Alleyne at cbckidsnews that addresses the questions kids have about residential schools. In late September, Instagram announced it would be pausing plans to launch a version of its app for kids. It happened just after the Wall Street Journal published a report saying Facebook — which owns Instagram — did an internal study showing the app could be harmful to young people, particularly girls.
