➡️ PETER SELLERS (1925-1980) - Sellers was an English actor and comedian best known for his role as Chief Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther film series and for his collaborations with director Stanley Kubrick. He grew up as an only child to parents who were both variety entertainers and traveled often. Although his father was Protestant and his mother was Jewish, Sellers was sent to a private Catholic school. His formal education ended at age 14 due to the outbreak of World War II. Sellers finally broke into the entertainment industry at the age of 26 with the "Goon Show" created with two friends that has a since been called one of the most influential comedy shows of all time. Four years later, he starred opposite his idol, Alec Guinness, in the "Ladykillers." In 1962, Sellers starred in Kubrick's adaptation of Nabokov's "Lolita." He then landed the iconic role of Clouseau and created the personality, accent, mustache, and costume for the character himself. He would reprise the role three more times. In one of the greatest performances in film history, Sellers played three totally different characters (an unflappable British RAF officer, an intellectual President of the United States, and a crazed German scientist) in Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove." Sellers got along famously with Kubrick, but his relationship with others, including his succession of wives, his own kids, and Pink Panther director Blake Edwards deteriorated significantly. He had a long history of heart problems and died of a heart attack at the age of 54. In his controversial will, Sellers left his estate to his fourth wife whom he had been married to for three years and left his children a mere pittance. His eldest son would die of a heart attack on the 26th anniversary of his death. Sellers has been cited as an influence by the Monty Python and Spinal Tap crews, Rowan Atkinson, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Eddie Murphy. His remains are retained at the Golders Green Crematorium in London along with Sigmund Freud, Keith Moon, and Bram Stoker.
