The Liverpool Daily Post (November 5, 1975): "They put Andy Warhol in a bookshop window and had the people file past him, like children visiting some weird Santa Claus in a Christmas Grotto. … Andy is in London for two or three days to promote his book, From A to B & Back Again, the Philosophy of Andy Warhol. His publishers arranged a book signing at a London bookshop. Usually you can count on at least 20 people at a signing. This time, there were 300. Andy, looking more 'normal' than any of them, like a dear little pink-faced silvery-haired Oxford professor, did all anybody asked of him. 'What kind of soup d'you like?' he asked each customer, and he drew them a Campbell's Soup Can. Towards the end, the drawing got a little shaky, but he never forgot to sign and date them London, 1975. Warhol philosophy: 'Being good a business is the most fascinating kind of art. I'm a business artist.' He loves the fact that the boy for whom he mis-spelt Minestrone on the soup can has a rarity on his hands. And the rest of us can tear the fly leaf out of those books and sell them for 500 guineas in four years' time. He signed greeting cards, paper napkins, maps of London's Underground Railway, for those people who didn't want to buy a book. A boy brought him a sheet of blank paper and said: 'Draw my picture?' What a nerve. But Andy smiled gently, said 'Sure.' And drew a Campbell's Soup Can. 'Andy,' said Michael Parkin, a London gallery owner, 'is so gentle he's a pain.' But that's the minority voice. If you stand behind Andy's char while he's signing books and watch the people, the vibes you get are almost religious. They are there to touch the hem of his garment … They don't think he's a pain. "The Harvey's Resort Hotel bombing took place on August 26–27, 1980, when several men masquerading as photocopier deliverers planted an elaborately booby trapped bomb containing 1,000 pounds (450 kg) of dynamite at Harvey's Resort Hotel (now "Harveys") in Stateline, Nevada. After an attempt to disarm the bomb, it exploded, causing extensive damage to the hotel but no injuries or deaths. The total cost of the damage was estimated to be around $18 million. John Birges Sr. was convicted of having made the bomb with a goal of extorting money from the casino after having lost $750,000 there. He died in prison in 1996, at the age of 74." A South Vietnamese Air Force (RVNAF) pilot jumps into the sea after ditching his UH-1 during Operation Frequent Wind, 30 April 1975. As the North Vietnamese continued to advance south, President Gerald Ford announced on 3 April 1975 that U.S. aircraft delivering supplies to Saigon would carry Vietnamese orphans to the United States and other Western countries on their return flights. It came to be known as Operation Babylift. With the fall of the South Vietnamese government imminent, between 18 and 24 April, the U.S. Navy concentrated a large assemblage of ships off the coast of South Vietnam under Task Force 76, U.S. Seventh Fleet, in anticipation of evacuating American civilians and at risk Vietnamese. It was widely feared that a bloodbath of reprisals against Vietnamese who had worked with Americans would accompany a communist takeover. During the month of April 1975, the U.S. Air Force flew 201 C-141 missions and 174 C-130 sorties and evacuated 50,493 people, including 5,600 U.S. citizens. On 28 April, Tan Son Nhut Air Base came under attack, and the fixed-wing evacuation was terminated. President Ford then initiated a helicopter airlift from Saigon, codenamed Operation Frequent Wind. It was carried out on 29–30 April 1975, during the last days of the Vietnam War. More than 7,000 people were evacuated from various points in Saigon, including the U.S. Embassy, in the largest helicopter evacuation in history. During the operation, so many South Vietnamese helicopters landed on the vessels, taking the evacuees that some 45 UH-1 Hueys and at least one CH-47 Chinook were pushed overboard to make room for more helicopters to land. Other helicopters, having nowhere to land, dropped off their passengers and were then ditched into the sea by their pilots, close to the ships, their pilots bailing out at the last moment to be picked up by rescue boats. He is considered a primary figure of the Beat Generation and a major postmodern author who influenced popular culture and literature. In 1943, while living in New York City, he befriended Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac. Their mutual influence became the foundation of the Beat Generation. Burroughs found success with his confessional first novel, Junkie (1953), but is best known for his third novel, Naked Lunch (1959). Naked Lunch became the subject of one of the last major literary censorship cases in the US after its publisher, Grove Press, was sued for violating a Massachusetts obscenity statute. In 1951, Burroughs alleged that he had shot his second wife, Joan Vollmer, while drunkenly attempting a “William Tell” stunt. He later told investigators that he had been showing his pistol to friends when it fell and hit the table, firing the bullet that killed her. After Burroughs returned to the US, he was convicted of manslaughter in absentia and received a 2 year suspended sentence. Burroughs wrote 18 novels and novellas, 6 collections of short stories, 4 collections of essays, and 5 books have been published of his interviews. He also collaborated on projects and recordings with numerous performers and musicians, made appearances in films, and created and exhibited thousands of visual artworks, including his celebrated “Shotgun Art”. In 1983, Burroughs was elected to the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. In 1984, he was awarded the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by France. Kerouac called Burroughs the “greatest satirical writer since Jonathan Swift”. While J. G. Ballard called him “the most important writer to emerge since the Second World War”. Burroughs died on August 2, 1997, at age 83, from complications of a heart attack he had suffered the previous day.

Despite Goddard being only eighteen, she and Cooper quickly became friends and though at first they remained strictly professional, eventually their common interests turned into love and by the end of the year, the couple were engaged. In March of 1976, Alice and Sheryl married and shortly after their nuptials, the couple were spurred off on a working honeymoon where they continued to perform together. In 1981, the couple welcomed their first child together, Calico, before going on to give birth to two more children, Dash and Sonora, in 1985 and 1992 respectively. Throughout the 1980s, Cooper began struggling with alcoholism and as his addiction worsened, Sheryl briefly separated from the star however, he was fortunately able to get clean and the couple reunited. After nearly twenty years and 58,000 deaths, the United States’ military campaign in Vietnam came to a ragged end on April 29, 1975, with Operation Frequent Wind, a two-day operation to evacuate Saigon. With North Vietnamese troops closing in on the capital and Congress refusing to allow the war to continue any longer, the US military had to resort to helicopter airlifts to evacuate approximately 7,000 people, two-thirds of whom were Vietnamese refugees. (The circumstances proved so dire that service members had to famously push empty helicopters into the sea in order to make room aboard navy vessels for more to land). Oggi ricordiamo quel 29 aprile 1975, quando Sergio Ramelli, militante del Fronte della Gioventù, fu attaccato brutalmente da militanti di estrema sinistra, semplicemente perché sosteneva idee divergenti dalle loro. È un’ingiustizia morire così giovani, solo per aver difeso i propri principi e i propri ideali. La sua tragica fine, avvenuta in modo vile e barbaro, a colpi di chiave inglese, rimarrà indelebile nella memoria collettiva. Oggi ricorre il 49esimo anniversario della morte di Sergio Ramelli, ragazzo del Fronte della Gioventù ammazzato nel 1975, a sprangate, sotto casa sua a Milano da un gruppo del servizio d’ordine di Avanguardia Operaia. Fu un assassinio maturato all’interno della sua scuola, l’Istituto Molinari, dopo che Sergio scrisse un tema contro le Brigate Rosse. Un professore consegnò lo scritto a un gruppo di studenti di estrema sinistra dello stesso istituto e fu così che venne firmata la sua condanna. Su mia iniziativa e dopo tante insistenze sono riuscita qualche anno fa a far apporre una targa in ricordo di Sergio all’interno del Molinari in modo che ogni anno potesse essere commemorata l’assurda morte di questo ragazzo in quella che era stata la sua scuola. Purtroppo non mi risulta che quest’anno ci sia stato o sia in programma alcun tipo di ricordo da parte dell’Istituto e questo non è certamente un bel segnale. #sergioramelli #1975 #violenzapolitica

📖Ein Blick in die Chronik (13) 📆Mai 1975 - Ausbildungszeltlager •🏕️ Vom 30.5. bis zum 01.06. fand ein Zeltlager im Wald bei Ergenzingen statt. 50 Teilnehmer kamen aus dem ganzen Landkreis zusammen, um sich gemeinsam fortzubilden. •🛠️ Unterstützt wurde der OV vom technischen Zug aus Nehren. Gemeinsam wurden insgesamt 13 Zelte, die über Notstromaggregate versorgt werden, aufgebaut. •📚Theoretische und praktische Ausbildungsinhalte waren: -Aufgabenverteilung im Katastrophenfall -Umgang mit Karte und Kompass🧭 -Rettung ohne herkömmliche Hilfsmittel, z.B. bauen einer Behelfstrage aus Ästen und Jacken🧥 •📝Nach einer kurzen Abschlussprüfung wurde ein durchaus positives Fazit gezogen und die Teilnehmer traten erschöpft aber gut gelaunt mit ihrem neuen Wissen die Heimreise an. #drkergenzingen #ehrenamt #einblickzurück #1975 #ausbildung #fortbildung #zeltlager
