Barney Bears Visit to @barkingdagenhamcollege ๐งธ๐ In order to support some of the Childcare Students at Barking & Dagenham College in their practical element of their learning, we visited the college with some of our children. We were so excited to see their amazing little nursery like room they have created, fully furnished and set up to gage this real experience and practical element of the students learning. Prior to the visit the students prepared the nursery environment to ensure it was safe and welcoming for the us. Our children and staff were in awe of the environment and all the hard work and passion shown by the students. The children had an amazing day, interacting with the students, playing and learning alongside them through the play, activities and learning opportunities planned and led by the students themselves. The children took part in story sessions and many other play activities to enhance their physical, social and language skills. It was such a fantastic opportunity for the students to observe the childrenโs behaviour and learn from each others practices, boosting their confidence in the workplace. Working alongside our nursery staff, the students also provided routine care during mealtimes and hand washing. We are super proud of the college for providing such an amazing environment to allow students to learn in this practical way. We are also super proud of the students for providing such a lovely day for our children! We have been working with the Enactus project at @uni_southampton which is a student-run enterprise group who aim to find innovative ways to help social needs. On Friday, an engineering student came to Charlton House to set up a hydroponic system in our greenhouse! This will allow us to plant directly into water tanks, which speeds up growth and uses less water than traditional planting. Members of our Eco-club spoke to the student and found out about the new hydroponic system.
