We are pleased to show our statistics for 2023. We have welcomed 97 babies who were birthed at home - this equates to 3.7% of all Kingston births! 113 women were cared for in labour at home. Prenatal/Antenatal education is vitally important in maternity today as there is so much unnecessary interventions. 👉 Ensure you ask questions - being fully informed means you make a decision that is right for you. 👉 Ensure that all procedures have been explained and that you fully understand all the options clearly. 👉 If something isn't sitting right with you then it isn't right. Listen to your gut instinct. It is usually RIGHT!! 👉You have a right to ask! It is your body and your baby! So many women feel they are not ALLOWED to ask questions. Last night was amazing! So lucky to have been nominated as team of the year for @portsmouth_hospitals #proudtobePHU awards And then to win! Our tiny little team in a massive hospital trust! We won! I feel so privileged to be able to work this way. My only sadness is that it's not available for everyone, as everyone deserves this level of care. Building trusting relationships with the families we look after, having the time to truly care for them, and be on call for them when they need. I work with some amazing women both in the team and in maternity as a whole. There is no I in team,and we couldn't do what we do without the wider teams doing what they do. Our dear friend and colleague, Amanda, has agreed to share her beautiful homebirth story under the care of NEST. 🪺🤰🏼👶🏻 Approximately 06:30 in the morning Amanda called Central NEST midwife, Charlie, in early labour 11:30 things started to heat up and Amanda was seen by Fionnuala, Central NEST midwife, and was shortly met with Charlie for labour care. Amanda chose to birth at home, so all labour care was provided here, where she felt most comfortable. Amanda was in early labour, but it was clear things were beginning to establish so we settled in to Amanda’s home and prepared for baby’s arrival. 13:30 Amanda was now in established labour and coping well. She is in and out of the pool to aid mobilisation and get baby into a good position. We all shared some pizza and listened to relaxing music while Amanda was in the zone. 17:30 Amanda’s cervix was now 7cm dilated. As this is her 2nd baby we would have hoped she would be a little closer to having baby. Together we discussed breaking the waters to see if this hurried baby on a little and Amanda agreed. After this, things got more intense and Amanda got back in the pool 18:45 Baby Dennis made his arrival into the world helped by Fionnuala and Charlie. Dennis was also helped by aspiring midwife and proud big sister, Eden. This was a very magical moment. 22:30 All was well with mum and baby. The midwives packed and cleaned up and the family were left in bed settled for the night 💖

Without it, a venture can hardly be classified as a true business. I can't help but chuckle at the memory of my own attempt at #entrepreneurship – opening a grocery shop with my father. It lasted a mere nine months before I secured a job and my dad's #plans took our family elsewhere. The abrupt discontinuation disrupted our grocery business, and our status as businessmen was short-lived, to say the least! Reflecting on my various endeavors, including selling biryani, stationery items, sarees, and more, I realize that none of them truly earned me the title of a "businessman." The common thread in all these experiences was the absence of continuity, a cornerstone of any genuine business. But this principle extends beyond business. It applies to anything we aspire to establish or achieve in life. The lack of continuity is a major culprit behind many of our failures.
