1/26 I made a goal for myself this year. Not a resolution so much as a theme of the year. My theme for this year is fitness. I want to try and spend more time outdoors and doing things and paying attention to my body. So my goal is to hike 26 mountains by the end of the year. If it takes longer than that so be it, but I like to have that goal to aspire to. It was amazing to hike up my first one of the year with an amazing man (who let me braid his hair 😂) and I'm excited to have even more adventures with you. Coquitlam Mountain is the first to be checked off the list. Definitely need cramp-ons to get up the final 100 meters or so, but the view is well worth it.

A woman was rescued near Widgeon Falls by volunteers that used a new device for remote calls. 🚁 . The hiker suffered serious injuries after slipping & falling down steep terrain over the July long weekend, & was hoisted up to a helicopter as Coquitlam SAR crews deemed the area impossible to access. . It was the first time the 50-year organization used the hoist line after earning approval to buy one earlier this year. . “We get more than a dozen calls on average for helicopter rescue, so it will depend on the terrain, time of day & how remote the rescue site is,” manager Al Hurley told the Tri-City News. . Nearly made it to Widgeon peak. 14hours/about 40 km This time after studying the trail carefully and learning from my mistakes during my last expedition,.. I head out with enthusiasm and wisdom. Although preparation is only part of the journey... Things became unexpectedly challenging on the last very sharp ridge before entering the bowl where things become less scary.... I had to stop and hang to a tree for a few minutes to regain my mental game as I had been hiking for nearly 7hours in the sun and I had been dealing with a lot of exposure during the last hour..... From high atop Burke Mountain at 1,270 metres, the hazy view westwards is dominated by nearby Golden Ears at 1,716 metres, Edge Peak at 1,680 metres, and Blanshard Peak at 1,550 metres. To the north is Coquitlam Mountain at 1,583 metres - to reach its summit, one must hike roughly 30 kilometres for 14 - 16 hours and ascend nearly 2,200 metres in elevation. Alternatively, it’s possible to get a good look at the summit with a drone - provided it’s launched outside of the Provincial Park boundary.

Let's look at the positives here: social distancing from the rest of the world means more cuddles with your quarantine buddy! It means more time to sit and talk about your hopes and dreams for the future, after all of this dies down. It means more time to learn about each other, to talk about the universe and all the stories that led you to each other. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . If you don't have a quarantine buddy, snuggle your pets! Watch some movies, Facetime with friends and family, maybe pick up that dusty guitar, listen to some ted talks, catch up on housework, finish that painting -- but please, don't cut or box dye your own hair -- this is coming from an ex-hairstylist. PUT THE SCISSORS DOWN! 😂 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So often I hear my friends, family and many others talking about how little time there is in a day to do what we want to do. "If only I had more time." Well, now you do. Utilize it. Sit down and think about what you might change about your habits, your lifestyle etc moving forward. Maybe you can reflect on what you have taken for granted, and what really doesn't matter in the long run. You can get outside in your backyard and breathe in some fresh air -- or you can lay on your couch and do nothing at all. It’s really your call 🙌🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I think it's really important to mention that this will be a difficult time for those who are in quarantine by themselves. Mental illness is at an all time high and this pandemic is making it really hard for some to keep their thoughts in a positive way -- heck, losing out on income is scary. Being alone in isolation is scary for those suffering in their own thoughts for days at a time. But PLEASE, as hard as it is, REACH OUT. No one should feel alone. And if no one has checked in on you, please remember that you are important, you are loved and that you are always free to reach out to me -- you will always be met with kindness and compassion. xo Laura

You are right where you need to be. ✨ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What a powerful thought. One that we often seem to forget. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In a creative industry it can seem like there is so much to do and work towards, at all times. I see so many creative people organizing workshops, getting their work published, selling presets, posting amazing content everyday in their stories and on their feed. There is no limit to how much we can share in this day and age. And this can leave some people feeling completely overwhelmed, especially when you're starting out. If this is you, STOP. Give yourself some grace. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am here to tell you, especially those of you who feel overwhelmed by it all, your happiness is not determined by your success in business. Additionally, your success is not determined by how much you DO. Yes, success means something different for everyone. However, I believe that it means being able to balance your work and life, to not be drowning in a to do list, to feel content in the present moment. . When I started out I assumed that to be successful as a photographer I had to book 20+ weddings in a season. In my first season I overbooked myself to the point I couldn't sleep and ended up in the hospital. I was chasing some idea of what I thought would make me happy. In doing that I lost moments of my life, I lost my health. I could have given SO much more to my clients if I had booked less, balanced more, and stopped giving in to this impossible rat race. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ People ask me all the time if I am going to do a workshop, release presets etc. but that is just not something I am focused on right now. And this is NOT to say that I won’t ever do these things or that my friends who are filling their books, releasing presets, workshops, styled shoots, aren't killing it, because they are!! I SEE YOU 😉💕 However, this is not the only way to grow your business. You are not less worthy because you aren’t doing it all. Success is subjective. We can be happy in our own achievements (whatever those are for you) and look forward to the future without putting so much pressure on ourselves. ✨ What does success mean to you? I would love to know!

Hi friends! 💕 I’ve been hibernating in my house all week, retouching from sun up to sun down while battling a cold and somehow functioning without a voice. December is always a crazy month but it is important to take time to reflect on what you have learned and what you would like to change for the next year. I’ve been reflecting a lot on 2019 and thinking a lot about my goals for balance and the direction of my business for 2020. There are so many things I want to achieve this year, in my personal life and in my business. I have a lot of blog posts in the works that will be covering topics like: the biggest lessons that I’ve learned in my first two wedding seasons, how to plan your west coast elopement, what I’ve learned about work/life balance and ways to achieve it. "What if we don't want our photos posted on social media?" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I get asked this question from time to time, from every type of booking; families, wedding, boudoir. Let me just say, I am not here to beef up my online game by posting your moments. I actually don't post everything I shoot, even though I do try my best to share sneak peeks. (This is why blogging is my new favourite thing -- I can't wait to share what I have been upto this season!) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I find joy in simply capturing the love that you share for your family, your partner, or yourself. I don't photograph weddings to stay up with the trends or to gain followers and likes. That's not my thing. I do love to share my current work, of course, as I want to show my clients how much I loved working with them and to showcase my work to other potential clients. But, your comfort is the most important thing to me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I do see this a lot with my own family; I take their picture and they immediately cringe and say "Please don't post that to instagram." It's an automatic response from living in a world where we are so available online, at all times. And as much as I may want to share that moment, I respect their privacy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When you hire me to photograph you, that is a HUGE deal to me. You did your research, you checked out other portfolios and you connected with what I am offering! It's never lost on me. So, if you do choose me and you prefer to keep yourself off of social media, no worries friends! I am here to capture you as you are, your big and little moments, all the chapters of your life. Today we spent the day hopping from park to park, we looked for sea glass at the beach, we bought new shoes, grabbed groceries and a floaty for the lake etc etc. It’s been amazing getting to spend more one on one time with my girl this week. 2/3 of the trail to #PikaPeak seemed awfully familiar. Apparently, I did this one 2 years ago, thinking it was #BurkeSummit. I did find #DennettPeak on the way back however, so I'll just ✔ it off as another summit (no, not cheating). Lorelle & Max’s wedding was an absolute dream. These two centred their day around their closest friends and family and it was so full of love. I took over 10,327 photos and drove over 443km from last Friday - Tuesday. I captured one family session, one engagement session, an eight hour wedding, a 4 hour wedding, an elopement and a proposal. 🙌🏼 Since I’ve been back home I’ve managed to reply to all of my emails, send off 4 galleries, sneak peeks, and now I’m up packing for the next adventure — Tofino this weekend!! 🌊 I’m photographing a beautiful beach wedding and decided to bring Dean, Olivia and my Mama along! I was definitely burning the midnight oil last night trying to get as much as I can before I head to Vancouver tomorrow. I have two sessions tomorrow and Lo & Max’s @thepolygongallery wedding on Saturday. Yesterday I had the amazing experience of meeting Sarah & Aaron for the first time to photograph their Pitt Lake elopement. S & A invited their closest family members to witness their exchange of personal vows in the beautiful natural landscape of Pitt Meadows. Afterwards, the three of us traveled to the top of Coquitlam Mountain with @skyhelicopters. We adventured, celebrated and popped champagne as the sun set beyond the mountains and the views of the lakes nestled in the valleys.
