What I really love though, is yin yoga, which I do besides the strength training, as a counterpart. The stretching is soothing to sore muscles. Did you ever try yin yoga? #8289 Counterpart Drip (Motueka, Rakau, Peacharine, Southern Cross) (Canada) Love me some Counterpart. This is a 6.5% IPA with all NZ Freestyle hops - Motueka, Rakau, Peacharine and Southern Cross SubZero Hop Kief. It pours murky with a foamy head and a peachy nose, it’s super creamy with an insane amount of peach and passion fruit, there’s dank citrus alongside juicy mango vibes, it’s so aromatic and tropical, some light pithy notes, it’s sticky af with a dry, citrusy finish. Glorious. May be my fave Drip to date.
Another reason to bring systems of the outside in, is because in the face of everything that humans seem to get wrong, and despite my commitment to generating safe, calm and careful enclosed spaces, on the whole I'm going to trust the 'natural world' (a flawed, complex, placeholder term I know) more. And so I do well with the reminder. If the inside (construction / architecture) represents 'for-human' territory, with all the environmental challenges it brings (energy and embodied carbon in fabrication, use and material procurement), the outside, by contrast can at times, and in places, be mediating, remediating, or just doing its own thing - beyond, and even occasionally without, 'us'. And though we reference 'invasive' and 'colonising' plant and animal species, and also historically having been the victims of 'biblical' scale floods, droughts, winds and quakes, we know that increasingly it's our (sometimes well-meaning, mostly belligerent) interference that has upset the balance and exacerbated extremes. The wider world though, left to its own devices, over time periods that we can't sometimes calibrate, and in ways that don't always look pretty but are generally sublime, will necessarily reconcile. I'm not a subscriber to organised religion at all - too often it seems to show up alongside the evils and catastrophic effects of other sinister power grabs - but recognise my Anglican cultural backdrop and like the concept of prayer. I appreciate Easter (a Saxon festival anyway - Ēostre?) for its non-committal dates that are closer tied to the universe's patterns than a 'Hallmarked' holiday (surprising us each time as it travels on a 5.7 million year cycle), plus references to the beauty of Spring with its chances and also requirements to start again. #8281 Counterpart x Sir John Dream Maker (Canada) Another of the 5th anniversary drops, this is a killer DIPA collab from Counterpart and the Quebec haze lords Sir John. Coming in at 8.2%, it rocks Peacharine and Citra, it pours hazy with a foamy head and a tropical nose, it’s super thick and creamy with tons of stone fruit, citrus and mango, it’s sticky with some piney vibes underneath the juicy peach, just a total juice bomb, all wrapping in a chalky, dry, tropical finish. Phenomenal.
It's the looooong weekend baby! This week was the longest shortest week ever. Closing #thirstythursday is an absolute banger of a beer from @counterpartbrewing celebrating their recent birthday celebrations. Dream Maker Dipa was collabed with Quebec beauties @brasseriesirjohn and together, magic has happened! Remember when Nelson and Riwaka were all the rage... well let's be honest , both those still are beautiful New Zealand hops... but there is a new hop that is starting to make a statement in the craftbeer world which is from @freestylehops new breeding hop program. Peacharine has quickly become all the rage and Dream Maker combines this and OG legend Citra to create a thick, juicy, hazy double IPA that is rich with peaches and nectarines with a cutting lime zest that finishes sticky sweet balanced with a slight subtle bitterness . It's a golden brew overall, and shows the magic that can happen with Peacharine. Gorgeous!
