When I was in tenth grade, a classmate told me that he likened my depression as a filter that sat in front of my eyes, tinting everything I saw so that I had a hard time finding goodness and beauty in myself. I appreciated his insight, and it made me much more mindful of how I viewed the world. It made me think that my perceptions were not accurate reflections of anything, but rather were what my worldview made them out to be. As an artist and a writer, I think I am so used to finding colour and beauty from everything aside from myself. I'm trying to find beauty in myself, too. I just hope there is something worth finding in me. I don’t know how to describe a book whose language is simplistic yet dreamy and serene. It is an abode of multifarious themes and elements. There are sensual tones that only contribute to the flavour of this anthology. The poems are easily distinguishable and cover different scenarios. This is like a cherry on top. After reading Time is a Mother, I was convinced of Vuong’s poetic brilliance. Each word has been delicately woven and balanced with structured sentences. At times, the author plays with the grammatical order of a line and applies modernist techniques of writing, such as that of fragmentation. There is also the mention of a poem titled ‘On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous’ which eventually becomes another novel that has won several noteworthy accolades. Relationship with life, parents, partner, music, love, society, history, Vietnam war—his poems delve into every aspect available. His eye for detail and stellar imagery make his poems worth a shot. The vivacity of life, balanced with its struggle is so beautifully captured in his writing: “Even my name/knelt down inside me, asking to be spared…For in the body, where everything has a price,/I was alive, didn’t know/there was a better reason." My strongest influences since birth have been women. I am surrounded by them, raised by them, protected, guided and educated by them. I also deeply respect the men in our family (past and present lol) but our women are in their God-given positions as the head, shoulders, knees and toes of our family. When my niece first started a conversation about superheroes (she must have only been 3 years old) she expressed her disappointment at not having a super power (like 'how Elsa can freeze') so my reply was that she does have a super power - I told her that being kind and being able to make people smile and laugh (as she does) is a super power. I also told her that being honest and smart is a super power... my response was obviously rubbish because what I should have said is, 'Xena Warrior Princess is ultimately one of the best superheroes but without any supernatural powers!' “En la cocina del patriarcado las mujeres nunca podremos dar con la dosis exacta de los ingredientes de la buena maternidad. A ninguna mujer se la cubre de gloria por hacer de madre de sus hijos, al fin y al cabo, esta en su instinto, pero si no lo hace se convierte en la encarnación del mal” Después de terminar este libro me costaba encontrar una única palabra para describirlo, pero si tuviera que quedarme con una sería sensibilidad. Me parece un historia tan personal y auténtica que te pone los pelos de punta, el como expone de forma tan sutil la fragilidad de la mujer durante su maternidad, hasta el límite de perder la cordura y encontrarse con la locura. Haciendo alusión a los inicios de la psiquiatría, y la evolución de aquello conocido como “la locura puerperal”, describe de la forma más íntima su vivencia al adquirir este rol de madre cargado de expectativas, las cuales no es capaz de cumplir y como esto transgrede la fina línea entre ser vista como una heroína a una villana. Sin duda podría seguir hablando de como este libro me ha hecho pensar y reflexionar acerca de los significados que adquiere el concepto de maternidad a lo largo de la historia, pero creo que es mejor que uno se atreva a leerlo de primera mano.

Oh Benji! #IYKYK The beartown books meant so much to me, and each storyline was incredible, so immersive and believable that by the end of the books you felt like the characters were friends or even family. The way @backmansk Fredrik Backman wove those characters lives together made you feel like you were living with them. Beartown featured in our wedding and means so very much to Paul and me. I knew I wanted something to symbolise the impact the books had on me so I went for Benji's jersey number and one of my favourite Fredrik Backman quotes "Words are not small things" in the author's handwriting. Ciąg zbieżny to pojęcie matematyczne. W literaturze liczne skojarzenia, m.in. z częścią twórczości Stanisława Lema. Matematyka to królowa nauk. Niektórzy uważają, że za jej pomocą można opisać i zdefiniować wszystko, także przebieg i sens życia ludzi. Wawrzyniec Hyska, autor "Ciągu zbieżnego", póki co, nie ma chyba takich ambicji. Może kiedyś. W jego sprawnie napisaną powieść wplecione są wątki matematyczno -informatyczne. Na szczęście nie dominują nad całością, są swoistymi przerywnikami i mogą być dość ciekawe dla laika w sferze technologii informatycznych. Sama powieść ma charakter obyczajowy z wieloma różnymi wątkami: uzależnienie od innych ludzi i rzeczy, wpływ mediów społecznościowych i mód tam lansowanych, zanik tradycyjnych wartości, nawyków i przyzwyczajeń. Główny bohater Marek, jak większość w literaturze, ma na początku kredyt zaufania u czytelnika. Można nawet zdążyć go polubić, a na pewno rozumieć jego intencje i działania. Poznajemy go na najwyższym stopniu jego "kariery" i swoistego, pozornego jednak szczęścia rodzinnego. Każda przeczytana strona przybliża upadek wszystkich, całej rodziny Marka. Akcja toczy się szybko i ma zaskakujące zwroty, co oczywiście podtrzymuje ciekawość. Inicjatorem tych zwrotów jest za każdym razem kolega Marka z pracy - Borys. Nasuwa się tu skojarzenie z diabłem, Mefistofelesem, który od niechcenia, z uśmiechem na twarzy wskazuje kierunek ku totalnej katastrofie. "Ciąg zbieżny"nie jest książką dla tych, którzy lubią dobre zakończenie. Ale nawet tu można takie sobie wyobrazić, jeżeli autor pokusi się o drugą część. Z każdego więzienia można wyjść, jeżeli ma się do kogo wrócić. A Marek ma do kogo....., tylko czy potrafi to zrozumieć i docenić. Życie jest ciągiem zbieżnym, które zawsze kończy się źle? “Cierra con llave tus bibliotecas, si quieres, pero no hay barrera, cerradura, ni cerrojo que puedas imponer a la libertad de mi mente.” A lo largo del libro Virginia Woolf nos lleva, mediante su meticulosa prosa y característica expresión, por un recorrido histórico sobre las mujeres y la escritura. Desde Shakespere a Jane Austen,son muchas las autoras o autores mencionados en su ensayo, donde cada uno de ellos cobra un papel fundamental para observar la condición de la mujer en la época,y descubrir que no dista tanto de la actualidad. Desde luego es una lectura muy recomendable, sencilla y que gracias al lenguaje tan acertado, irónico e ingenioso de la autora hace imposible despegarse de la hoja. Sin duda alguna una lectura más que necesaria.❤️🩹
