Welcome to indecisive wednesday! I have the morning off, so I thought I'll have a proper session with a good puerh but WHICH ONE!? I could not decide so I picked three😄 In my jianshui pot I have @craftedleafteas Gold Leaf Lao Ban Zhang Shou Puerh from 1989, in the blue pot @mei_leaf Kick Back Champ, a mix of two Bulang Shou Puerhs from 2015, and in my gaiwan another @craftedleafteas tea, Mengku Iceland King Sheng Puerh from 2017. And let me tell you, the body sensation after drinking a few rounds of all of these tea's (I had a huge pot of green in the morning as well😬) is quite interesting. Interesting might be a bit of an understatement, I'm not even sure if I'm good to drive😂 I feel incredibly grounded but exhilarated and.. floating. Very refreshing. I'm also giving a class on tea later today, which includes a lot of sipping, so let's see who falls asleep tonight and who doesn't😅 The Iceland King is super fruity with a bit of a fresh smokiness, it numbs my tongue with its fuzzy velvety saltyness. Very nice🌿🍑 The 1989 Puerh tastes and looks ancient. It's smooth and balanced, surprisingly sweet. The minerality is juicy and there's a lot of antique wood in the taste. Reminds me of an old writing desk. Love it🪵🪨🥞 Kick Back Champ has quite a tight minerality which is balanced out with a rich plum/prune sweetness. It leaves a long after taste of brown sugar on my tongue. It was definitely worth it to take a little pause from knitting and go for a walk 💙 We missed the sunset by a few minutes but the light was amazing anyway! The best thing about monday hikes is that there's no one else around❤️ My mother and I walked the Nyrölä nature trail today, and we got the whole forest for ourselves🍂❄️ It's a very popular trail and fun for the kids (and adults) because there's a little ferry and you get to pull it yourself using ropes to get to the campsite. The last time I was here it was very crowded and our kids were quite little, so it was nice this time to just focus on the beautiful frozen nature. Today's little adventure took us to Hitonhauta (roughly translated to devils tomb). It's a beautiful gorge not far from here.🌲🌲🌲 The hike wasn't long but the paths were rocky. Such a beautiful place! 2022 High Mountain Oolong (Red Plum) Black Tea from @craftedleafteas. This tea is quite delicious. It’s made from the same material as Dong Ding Oolong. It tastes like a very light Dong Ding with minimal roast. At first sip it’s a little citrusy. There is a fruity and agave like sweetness on the end. It has the flavor power of a black tea but profile of an oolong. The flavors develop over infusions. There is an almond and walnut nuttiness. I also taste fruit notes such as plum and dark cherries. The bitterness in this tea doesn’t appear until after multiple infusions. But it remains on the sweeter side. Truly excellent tea! The leaves open up beautifully. Today we revisited Multamäki in Laukaa. Another beautiful day and hike and two teas😄 It was about +23°c so going uphill was sweaty. We had Lu'an Guapian on top of the hill, and Jinjunmei by the lake, both teas from @craftedleafteas ❤️ It's so amazing how green it is all of a sudden, it makes me so happy🌿🌲🍃💚 Looking at the blue sky and white clouds reflecting from the surface of the lake makes it obvious that our flag looks like this 🇫🇮 Also, we booked a trip to Lapland😍 I'm going with the kids and my mother to fell Pyhä on the 5th of June for five nights and I can't wait! How's everyone doing? ❤️ I haven't been here much in two weeks. We've been having a crazy time at work, and the weather has been s***t, but today on my day off the sun came out☀️ We revisited the nature trail in Muurame which I liked very much. This time my husband and kids came along aswell, you can spot our whole family in a tree😄 The trail was flooded at one part, and we took our shoes off and just walked through the ice cold water, it was so could it hurt😅 We had a lovely tea time and I brewed @craftedleafteas Red Plum High Mountain Oolong🌿 I've been graving this tea for days, it was so nice sipping it by the river. 2012 Roasted Narcissus Oolong Brick Brownie from @craftedleafteas . The smell of the dried leaves is like edamame and fried rice. The wet leaves give off a green bean aroma. I am getting notes of edamame and bean sprouts. After a couple infusions and the leaves unfold the tea becomes more floral. There are strong notes of gardenia. The roasted notes in this tea remind me of grilled tofu and toasted rice. The brew is bitter and mildly astringent. It leaves a perfume taste in my mouth. Time for a foray back into the Sheng world again. I have only dabbled in Raw Puerh for a bit and want to learn more. I’ve had this 2013 Jing Mai Wild Arbor for a while and decided it was time to jump into it. This one was a bit more bitter than I like, but it was a good experience. Shorted up to some 5 second steeps and that helped tame the bitterness. Last night's tea session with Huoshan Yellow from @craftedleafteas . Yellow tea is a bit of a mystery for me. I think I've tasted 5 different yellow teas in my life, and they've all been very different compared to each other. One tasted like honey, one was super floral and one was musty and almost smoky. So I don't really know what to expect brewing yellow tea😄 This one had a thick brothy and caramelly scent, and it felt really oily and smooth as heck. The tea was pleasantly sweet like birch sap and there was a surprising salty ending! I liked this tea very much! But yet another very different yellow tea, keeping the yellow mystery alive😄 Ps. My son and I took a walk exploring the near by path to the lakeside. There's a building near the lake that's been abandoned for a long time, I think it might have had something to do with old phone lines. I find it odd that it's just a concrete cube and there's a heat retaining fireplace in there. What do we have here? Selected a few macarons from The Dark Gallery and paired them with a tea from @craftedleafteas. I chose 2019 Spring Golden Tip Lapsang Souchong black tea because I’ve got a Lapsang Souchong Caramel macaron (the beige and blue one). Love the smoky and chocolate-y taste of this tea with hints of caramel. Have been enjoying this tea when in the office for a while and saved these last two scoops of tea leaves for this brew! Two different kinds of green tea today, Korean Daejak and Lu'an Guapian from China. I just couldn't decide which one to have, so why not both! I am totally in love with the Guapian leaves, they are so pretty !💚 It's so interesting to see how different teas taste like when you have another tea on the side. Daejak tasted more toasty than before reminding me of Tamaryokucha. Guapian was ever so oily and sweet, both top-notch greens🌿 Lappi took part in smelling the tea (approved) and holding my pot but obviously thought it's downright silly to have tea from fancy glasses. Wonderful session this afternoon with my new Kyusu and cup from @teathoughts Nazanin and some Spring West Lake Dragon Well (Bite Of Dragon) from @craftedleafteas . The tea was outstanding and one of the best Dragon Well teas I’ve ever tried. It seemed to live right on the edge of being too vegetal or too astringent, but it never crossed over into that space. Just a very smooth, refreshing sip every time. The Kyusu, although a bit big for one session, is so beautiful and feels great in the hand. Easy to pour and no spillage or drips. The cup is perfect as well. As long as you have a nice Gong Dao Bei, you can keep sipping with the cup all afternoon. I had Luan Guapian from spring 2021 by @craftedleafteas the other night💚 This tea comes from Anhui China, and goes also by the name melon seed tea, which I think it's because of the shape of the leaf. The second leaf of the tea plant is picked for this tea, and the stems are taken out. I don't usually drink that much green tea this time of year, but this one is exceptionally creamy and brothy. But also really fresh and..well green 😄There are so many elements to this tea that it's hard to say which feature is the strongest. I looked at my notes and I've written down caramel, light umami, beautifully green, super mellow, sweet and steamed green beans. Despite all these many features, the tea is still se well balancend and calming. I love it💚 Lappi gave his opinions on the tea as well (he was pleased). Super fun #teasession tonight as I tried @craftedleafteas 2017 Spring Premium Yiwu Lapsang Raw Puerh that they graciously included as a sample in my order with them. I’m still learning Raw Puerh, but this was one of the better ones I’ve had. I was a bit distracted as I was also packing a #teaswap box, so a few of the steeps were cool or cold when I finished then. I find that I much prefer it hot over cool temps and the cooler it is, the more astringent the notes are. A good learning experience tonight. And it was nice to have Larry, the 3rd cousin of @herbthetravelingteaturtle join me tonight. If you’re like me and you cringe when people snap their spaghetti in half before boiling it, I think you’ll appreciate my dedication to buying new teaware alongside my order of Tai Ping Hou Kui. I needed a vessel that would keep those gorgeous flat leaves intact, and this tea glass is perfect 😍. First time with Tai Ping Hou Kui and I’m in love with the look of the big, beautiful, bright green leaves. I get a light, umami-forward brew with a mellow sweetness on the finish. It gives off steamed Brussels sprouts and a slightly savory nuttiness almost like boiled peanuts (a taste that brings me back to my childhood, when my mother would recreate the popular and satisfying Filipino street snack at home). As I see the events of the last few days unfold, I just want to share a little story. When I first moved to Canada by myself, I was very lost, still trying to find my place/ identity. I was the only brown girl in a class of 120 people, and to say the least, I stood out like a sore thumb. During this very chaotic period, the people who took me in were a group of Asian students who would give me a seat at their table in the cafeteria, invite me to do assignments with them, or just hang out on Friday nights. They would share stories with me about Lunar New Year celebrations, and also introduce me to some western culture traditions. When I went through a bad break-up, they made sure I was still studying for exams. When my grandma passed away a week before exams, they hugged me, and held me close. I would forever be grateful to that group who made me feel less lonely during my first few months, and pretty much my entire way through university. Now that I think back, may be they understood how it felt to not belong; and may be I didn’t realize it then, but what got me through the first few years here is that I felt loved and supported. Every small drop/ act of kindness helps create a bigger system of support. I just want to say to our Asian friends that our communities wouldn’t be the same without you. What a freezing morning! I think it was below -30°c when I woke up🥶 But it's going to be a beautiful day! I got a sample of 2017 Iceland King Sheng Puerh from @craftedleafteas the previous time, and I thought I'll brew it today! This sheng changes nicely while brewing. There's a lovely thick tangy acidness in the end, that changes into a sea salty and sort of numbing feeling on your toung, I love it!🍃 The long lasting after taste gives you time to detect notes and sensations. Too bad I only had this one sample! But I bet I can continue brewing it later on, now off to work! Have a nice day everyone😍 Ps. This morning I had an impromptu tea tasting with no teapot or strainers. I did have a thermometer to check temperature but it was quite a set up! I tried @craftedleafteas 2017 Badashan Wild Tree Raw Puerh and 2019 Spring Premium Anxi Tieguanyin. I prefer the Tieguanyin for the slightly sweet notes and fresh flavor but both were very tasty! We have had a cold week! It was -27°C when I left the house this morning❄️❄️ My car wouldn't start but luckily my friends car did and she gave me a lift to work💕 Such a weather calls for lots of hot tea, wool socks and log fire🍵 This is my first time brewing Jin Jun Mei🍃 This one's from @craftedleafteas. I was a bit too excited and put too much leaves in my gaiwan🙄, so the first two steeps were pretty strongly malty. Like Guinness or rye bread, but when I got it right, all the fruity notes came out nicely💚 I tasted lychees, something floral I can't quite put my finger on, and it all ends with a sweet and roasty dark chocolate fudge cookie taste. Loving it💕 Lappi was disappointed when the baggie I opened, was full of tea and not cat treats. He inspected the gaiwan thoroughly, glared at me and went for a nap. Finland celebrates today the 103rd year of independence🇫🇮 At six in the evening everyone lights two 🕯️candles🕯️ on the window ledge as is tradition. There are many stories behind the candles, and why they are lit, but I like to think it's to honour those men and women who lost their lives and made sacrifices for this country. Our own traditions include decorating the christmas tree on Independence day, eat well and usually in the evening we watch the presidential ball on the tv. A sweet and tangy dancong 🍅🍵 Huang zhi xiang dancong (spring 2019) from @craftedleafteas was a real surprise to me!
