Cellphone Cinema #TipTuesday Part 3: Light It Up Like Hollywood! Light has a huge impact on how your video looks. It’s pretty much the star of the show. Harsh sunlight? Shooting by candlelight? Obviously what you’re shooting will look totally different under different conditions like these. Up your lighting game with simple techniques like these: Shooting outdoors in harsh sunlight? Seek the shade for a more even and flattering light. But try to find an angle where you’re not looking at an overly bright background or the phone’s auto exposure will darken your subject's face to compensate. Dim interior? Have you tried anything as simple as just taking a second to turn on more light in the room? Just be sure to keep those additional lights out of the background, or they’ll end up as the brightest point in the frame and detract from your subject. Still need more light? Unless you’ve got a pocket LED on you (and bravo if you do!), turn on your camera’s built-in flash and then take a step, or two, back so the 'on' camera light isn’t as harsh.
