The plant that refuses to root 🤨 sold to me as Hoya "dinner plate." It was supposed to be rooted but I think actually had root rot. It started to suffer, so I chopped the roots and threw it in water. It's been in water for a while and I kept hoping she'd figure it out but she didn't, lol. I just chopped it significantly and threw it in moss today as a last ditch effort. When you get a new latifolia, and the leaves are as big as your hand. 🤯 This is what people call Hoya latifolia ‘Sarawak’, even though that’s not an official name, Sarawak just refers to the geographical location it was found. And in that location other hoyas grow as well, so it’s not the only one that could be called Sarawak. This is my second attempt at rerooting my dinner plate latifolia. Its roots rotted when I tried to transition it to a wet/dry cycle the first time. I wasn’t sure if there was enough of the node and stem left to root and produce a new growth point. This Hoya has blown my mind 🤯 When I first bought it , it had 2 HUGE beautiful leaves and this long woodsy tendril. The two leaves browned a couple days after I brought it home and wilted. So I cut them off praying for leaves to come back. Nothing happened for so long. Then I got my Spider Farmer light and decided this Hoya would be one that would go under it. Within a couple weeks growth started happening. Now, about 6ish months later (I need to double check when I brought this baby home) I now have 8 leaves and 8 new growth points! Hoyas are so resilient! That’s one reason they are one of my most favorite species of plants. That and they are just so freaking beautiful and unique! Have you had a Hoya blow your mind? This is my absolute favorite hoya; loyceandrewsiana. It's rarely available and as I noticed that someone was actually selling it 15 months ago I just had to buy it even though it was quite expensive (not the most expensive hoya I own though). But it really is worth every penny. It is a slow but steady grower. Its biggest leaves are now approx. 12 x 12 cm but this hoya can actually do much bigger leaves and that's why it's sometimes called a dinner plate hoya. This hoya is one of the heaviest hoyas known with its very thick, big and succulent leaves. This hoya has been easy to grow; it has not minded overwatering and I actually feel like it needs quite a lot of water for a hoya and more over, such a succulent hoya. What started as one leaf of this Hoya Sarawak, has now become 20 leaves 🥹🌱When I added the extended trellis the vine died off and since then a new vine is growing like crazy and has filled this large trellis I’ve built! 😱 on the downside, it looks like the original leaf begun yellowing so this plant might drop an old leaf soon 🫠 . 📝General Hoya Care🌿🤍💕: . 🌡Temperature: Hoya plants can adapt to almost any moderate temperature, but prefer 65°F- 80°F (18.3°- 26.7°C ) during the day and 60°F - 65°F (15.6°C - 18.3°C) at night. . 💧Watering: Hoyas are Succulent Plants that store water in their leaves. Allow the soil to slightly dry out before watering. These plants thrive on neglect, but do need additional water when in bloom. I use tap water, never let this dry out completely and check the leaves to determine if it needs water. . ☀️Light: Hoya plants do best and bloom more often in very bright, indirect light. They are one of the few indoor plants that can handle direct morning sun. Although hoya plants can adapt to lower light, they grow much slower and do not produce their fragrant, waxy flowers that are so beautiful. . 🟤Soil: Use a well-aerated fast-draining potting soil. This plant is in a mix of potting soil, perlite, coco husks, orchid bark, and a little bit of activated charcoal. . 🌫Humidity: Hoyas LOVE humidity and can be beneficial for their growth. Hoya Sarawak Growth Update! This plant was recently repotted to a pot a size up and reinforced with more trellises because it was getting too heavy and making me nervous it would tip over.
