A few shots of my Alocasia Polly and her new leaf. From @citygrows_terminal in February 2023, it lost a few leaves at first and got down to 3 or 4, but she is slowly building. I've had 2 leaves in the past month and there's a flower starting now. Omg it's a wedding day miracle! One of the baobabs has finally sprouted! My entry to @loosegardeners spring fair. This category is "Houseplant Heaven" judged by @mr_plantgeek 🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴 💚I like to think that I'm okay with most house plants. I DO however accidentally 💀 spiky Cacti and Jade plants, just by over loving them 😅💦🪴 💚What I've been learning over the years is to recreate the plants natural environment. Using the correct pot, soil, water and light. Use Google. 🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴 💚A lot of people think you can just dump a house plant in a pot of compost and ta-daah it's good, but not always. 🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴 💚Some plants need amendments to create more air and drainage around the roots so they don't suffocate or drown. E.g. Perlite, bark, small stones, grit or even sand (if they're dessert type plants). 🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴 💚The plant might need amendments that help retain water for longer but also don't rot the roots, e.g. Leca balls, bark and spagnum moss. 🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴 💚They need the right amount of light as they could either scorch or slowly die from lack of light, (don't put plants in rooms without windows please! 🙏). 🪴🪴🪴 💚Plants also need the right amount of water and the right kind of water, as they'll get too many nutrients or not enough, they could even get poisoned by chlorine etc. Some plants like rainwater, some are happy with tap, some are also fine with filtered water.🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴 💚Look into which type of feed your plants need. 💚Better to always re-pot a new house plant (and quarantine it from your other plants in case of pests), 9 times out of 10 it will not be sitting in the correct type of medium. Remove the pot and check over its roots and foliage for signs of rot, diseases and pests, check for a root ball "death plug" that some nurseries grow the plant in. They can slowly choke the plant out as it grows. 🪴 💚Some plants might be better in clay pots and some in plastic ones (drainage holes please!!!). 🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴 💚Might sound like a lot of fuss, but if you really want your plants to thrive in your home, you have to put the extra effort in. 🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴🪴 💚In this photo there are two ZZ plants, two Easter Cacti, one Peace Lily, five Snake plants, one Swedish Ivy, one air plant and one Oxalis Triangularis.
