4 months ago, I decided to perform a 𝗿𝗵𝗶𝘇𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 on the mama plant. It was one of the most stressful things I’ve done. I checked both mama and stem cut profusely in the next few months. Probably 20 times a day?! 😵 Anyways, fast forward today - we have both a gorgeous sectoral baby and (thankfully still alive) mama plant ♡ Baby is going to her new home today. Although bittersweet, I’m slowly coming to terms that I can’t hoard every plant and that plant will grow. I do know one thing for certain - she will make someone very happy. Hello Gardening Friends, What a busy weekend. It feels so good to be out in the cool weather working all day long. It reminds me of my time spent working golf courses. This weekend, I partially paid for math tutoring by spring cleaning a front yard, installed bolt and locks on the greenhouse doors, potted up bok choy, lettuces, kale and spinach, managed to tidy up the garage and seeded 6 cucumbers for the greenhouse, a dozen fennel and 4 dozen corn for my first crops in the garden. My year of experimenting had me covering the rhubarb to try forcing. The bin will sit over the rhubarb for 8 weeks, making the stems sweeter. This technique is hard on plant, so much so, that it will need a season or two to recover. I am looking forward to some rhubarb crisp (and gin). I will keep you posted on how it turns out.
