Two years ago, a partnership was established with @poolscouts , and each year, the initiative raises increasing funds to provide high-quality swim lessons to children who would not have access to them otherwise across the U.S. The significant impact of this partnership on children in local communities, where Pool Scouts franchisees and customers collaborate to prevent drowning, is immeasurable. Pool Scouts Launches 2024 Hope Floats Campaign During National Water Safety Month Throughout the month of May, which is Water Safety Month, Pool Scouts franchise locations that opt into the campaign will donate $1 from each service to Hope Floats in order to provide swim lesson scholarships for children across the U.S. who wouldnโt otherwise be able to afford them. After raising more than $26,000 in 2023, Pool Scouts has set a goal of $35,000 for this yearโs fundraising efforts. What an amazing trip to end this year's spring break training! ๐ช๐ฟ๐คฟ We have a new @sdidivers Open Water Scuba Diver, a Junior Open Water Scuba Diver, and TWO Advanced Open Water Scuba Divers ๐ thanks to Instructor Kramer of @dwp_cares and Roger and crew of @rogersscubashack (where Sea Scope Inc was first imagined). Our Discoverers this trip also engaged in marine conservation education centered around coral ๐ชธ identification and surveying, as well as seeing how us scuba divers rid the ocean of lionfish (an invasion species) ๐ฑ ๐. We also met with Mr. Hollingswoth, who showed our Discoverers how to deploy underwater robots ๐ค that utilize artificial intelligence to monitor the biodiversity changes of specific marine life in the ocean. Cool, right!? 2024 NW Age Group Regional Championships 6 Events, 8 total swims, 6 PRs, 5๐ฅ, 2 BCST team records, 1 sub minute 100 back, and 1 blooper. NW Regionals is a 4๏ธโฃ day meet that will end on Sunday. Brooklyn is headed out on a special school art ๐ผ๏ธ trip to Italy ๐ฎ๐น and France ๐ซ๐ท today so she was only able to compete Thursday and Friday. Brooklyn had extremely strong individual events both days with the exception of her last prelim event on Friday - her 100 breast was a bust ๐ At first Brooklyn presented ok despite being disappointed, but when we left to grab lunch and rest before returning to finals the tears came. Brooklyn talked about how she let her team down by missing finals in the event, which impacts her ability to score points for the team. We talked about grace, and how to refocus to finish out finals. Ultimately she was aware that her food intake got away from her and that her swim was likely a result of her gas tankโฝ๏ธ being on empty. She had a good lunch, got some rest and committed to making sure she ate the proper snacks at finals. It worked! She had her first sub minute 100 backstroke and dropped on her 50 freestyle earning herself the BCST record for 11/12 girls. On Thursday night her 400 free relay team SHOWED UP! They dominated and brought home the gold and a new BCST 11/12 record! Brooklynโs anchor split had parents buzzing - I was stopped a few times by parents who said they love watching her swim! Brooklynโs last event ended around 7:20pm and we snagged the 9:15 flight โ๏ธ to LAX, landed at 12:30am, got to our hotel at 1:30am got two hours of sleep and headed back to the airport at 4am to meet up for her travel trip. She is one sleepy girl, but she is about to have 10 best days to add to her core memories! What an amazing week! Two AquaForce๐คฟ๐ช๐พ students were given the opportunity to experience the beautiful culture of the Dominican Republic ๐ฉ๐ด Not only did they scuba dive, but also learned how important the ocean ๐๐ชธ is to the people. The beautiful North coast relies heavily on tourism, with people from around the world coming for recreational aquatic activities in Sosua and Caberete (also known as Kite Beach ๐๐พโโ๏ธ). Additionally, with the shortage of baby eels around the world (due to pollution and climate changes), the Dominican Republic has become one of the few places around the world that baby eels can be fished. Most of the inhabitants in the area where these baby eels are laid live in extreme poverty and so during the spawning season it becomes very busy at night. The people can sell what they catch for hundreds of $ Sea Scope Inc met with @7elements.global Founder David Addison who facilitated a beach clean-up at the estuary in the rural area of Las Canas where the local inhabitants fish. Various plastic bottles, various plastic bags, styrofoam containers, batteries, cigarette packs, liquor bottles, bottle caps, and fishing nets are just a few of the items we collected. Of the trash collected, David shared with us how he has been repurposing the plastic bottles. Approximately 150 houses have been built with the trashed plastic bottles within the cement walls by 7e ๐ We pray that organizations around the world like ourselves and 7e continue to educate communities on the importance of reducing it's single use plastic and their carbon footprint, as well as make efforts to conserve our ocean planet โป๏ธ๐. Today, we celebrate the achievements of US water poloist Ashleigh Johnson OLY. She became the first African American woman to make a U.S. Olympic Women's Water Polo Team and helped propel Team USA to multiple gold medals, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics.
