Water 💦 I’ve always loved swimming. Something about being in the water just clears out my head and all of my problems seem to disappear for a while. I am 60 years young in less than a month now and my personal creed is actually my professional tagline "creating your best life now". Increasingly, I feel pushed in a certain direction. Maybe I should be slowing down, or taking less risks, or living my life on someone else's terms. Increasingly, there's a glance or something said that says so much without saying too much. Fortunately, I have so much will and passion within that keeps me moving forward, exhilarated, and determined to try new things and live life on my terms. It's about challenging fear and pain, and questioning -always questioning- Maybe all this resonates with you, if so, you are my people, and you'll understand that holding my breath to the bottom of Lake Eacham was something I had to do. Courage is the mental or moral strength to venture out, try new things, persevere, and stand up to difficulties, danger, and fear. I have wanted to freedive for the longest time so when the opportunity came up I joined without hesitation. It may or may not surprise you to know, that while I love the water I am not a strong swimmer or at least in my mind a particularly athletic person. This was blatantly obvious to me when faced with 3 hours at a time in the water with this 2 day introductory course. It was exhilarating, exhausting, and challenging and at one point I had to walk away and collect myself. But the pull to freedive outweighed the doubt within me. Now I am a certified freediver 🧜‍♀️🧜‍♀️🧜‍♀️

Here we're celebrating Arni's birthday the day after we arrived, and we'll celebrate my birthday the day before we leave. We both adore the ocean, warm weather, and water activities. Hence we're in Port Douglas to -relax, restore, study, and work- for the next five weeks. Tomorrow we start classes to learn how to freedive. Freediving is diving unaided, so no tanks or breathing gear, we will go 10 metres down in the water with one breath. Arni and I left for Port Douglas first thing this morning. We're driving for the next three days and will be away for six weeks! This trip combines recovery, recreation, study, & work. Of course, there'll be lots of scuba diving and we've booked a freediving course too! Where we'll learn to descend to 10 metres underwater with a single breath! I'm doing my best to make positive health choices & hanging around in a warm environment is part of the plan. I'm thrilled to continue working with my clients surrounded by sun and surf and the ocean and ocean healing! I love that my work is as good for me as it is for my clients. Wallace J Nichols, marine biologist, scientist, and author of Blue Mind suggests that we have 3 different brain states. Blue Mind is a mildly meditative state we experience when we are in, on, under, or near Water. An activated Blue Mind restores wellbeing to help us feel positive emotions, such as joy, awe, and gratitude. It can also help us to be more focused, more creative, and perform at our peak. An activated Red Mind is when we're in a fear-based or anxious mode. It's when our sympathetic nervous systems experience fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. Red Mind is a consequence of our modern world where we are always 'on' with social media and our devices, our minds are in a state of constant mild or extreme anxiety. Red Mind isn't inherently bad if we can learn ways to switch off and give our minds a break. An extreme Red Mind is known as a Grey Mind. This is when we are in a state of dissociation or shutdown. Depression and mental illness are common in a Grey Mind state. It's when we've lived under constant stress for a prolonged period. Short bursts of stress can help us do hard things, long periods of stress will make us sick. It's not all doom and gloom though because I am here to tell you that Water is your medicine. Water will heal your troubled mind. Science shows that 23 minutes a day in, on, under, or near Water can keep you in the Blue zone. Being near Water can include taking showers and baths, and sitting near fountains or water features. Being near Water can also include paintings or images of Water. Playing Water sounds can also activate your Blue Mind. Where is Your Water? Water is all around us in lakes, ponds, creeks, rivers, oceans, mist, rain, taps, waterfalls, and more. We are created in Water and indeed spend months within our mother's wombs. When did you first experience Water? We had a boat when I was a child and I have really fond memories of days out on the ocean. I raised my children near the Ocean, and we spent much time relaxing and playing in rock pools, on the water's edge, and out in the deep. For years I imagined what it would be like to scuba dive. And now the depths of the water are my happy place where I feel no pain in body or mind. My current home has wetlands at the end of the street. These photos are shared from a Lake half an hour from my home. Now a holiday isn't a holiday unless I've explored underneath the Water. If I look a little sleepy in this photo it's because it's 3am and I'm getting ready to ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​attend a masterclass for the Ocean Healing and Therapy Program to hear Wallace J Nichols, scientist and author of Blue Mind. I took this photo to check how I looked before jumping on Zoom. You see Arni was sleeping and I didn't want to turn the lights on in our ensuite, so it seemed like the quickest way 🤭😂😂 I am so glad I managed to get myself out of bed -alright truth be told I couldn't sleep anyway. Wallace is such an inspirational speaker. Speaking from his heart and out of passion. The entire two hour workshop was a dream. Wallace shared the science and his beliefs about water. He gave me facts and statistics. Moreover, he clearly explained practical ways we can all benefit from water. I'll be sharing more over the coming weeks. Let me know in the comments below, with words or a heart. 💙🐋 🌊🐋💙 Whenever I connect to the spirit of Sea Soul Blessings, she appears to me as a whale… And recently, she has been reminding me to tend to my aching whale-heart. As I tend to the world around me, and consider what it means to be love in action. She is also calling me (despite my desire to hide away from marketing right now!) to share how valuable the ocean’s support can be to others sheltering vast tender hearts like mine. Especially while navigating your way through the current world crises - and the ongoing challenges of life as a human right now. Your whale heart is so needed. As is mine. Have you ever heard of the “Blue Mind” theory? 🩵 It’s a theory introduced by Dr. @wallacejnichols that describes the calm and meditative state that naturally occurs when we are close to water! 🌊 Even seeing bodies of water through a screen can have wonderful positive effects on your overall well-being! As someone who used to have a very ungrounded nervous system, being in nature (especially near the ocean) has been one of the most powerful tools I’ve used to help me find a sense of inner peace and balance in my own life 😌 I truly believe that spending time in nature is one of the most underrated healing modalities out there! When I was in the thick of healing from burnout, I remember going to my local park to sit in the sun and watch the ducks float on the pond for hours at a time There is just something incredibly healing about being near water and the great outdoors 🌿 As a society, we have become SO disconnected from our true selves We stare at screens all day. We consume harmful chemicals in our processed food. We are constantly bombarded with negative news from around the world. We are more stressed than ever.
